S&W 642 help

I was cleaning my several month old S&W642 yesterday and I came across something on the - well just look at the picture. Is that considered the breach face? Anyway, it looks like part of the finish is scraped off or corroded or something. Anyone know what is happening?

Howdy,

In short, the finish is wearing off. Call S&W and they'll refinish it for you, at no cost. While the aluminum won't rust, it will oxidize over time. I ran into a similar issue my 642.

Now I have a 442

Post this on the 642 Club Thread please. Would like to keep this around for future reference. There are over 500 some odd 642/442 owners there that would like to help you and we can archive this kind of information there.

I have a small amount of that occuring in the same area of my 642 after about one years use.
