I was in a gunshop about 50 miles from home the other day. They had a DeSantis thumb break scabbard that fits my 686 and it was only $56, so I got it. It was pretty tight but I wrapped it in a thin piece of cloth, managed to get it snapped and let it sit for a day and a half. Its going to work nicely. Never used a thumb break holster before, so will have to get used to it.

The thumb break is quick to get used to. Grasp the gun's butt "thumb up" and then close your hand around the gun. With a little practice, your thumb collides quite naturally with the tab and voila.

I was going to suggest a DeSantis Thumb Break Scabbard but new they're close to $80 so I thought that might be over budget for you. Good to hear you found one locally and for a decent price.

You have a relatively expensive gun that others might not be able to afford. How was he suppose to know what your price range might be?

I shoot trap with guys that show up with $100 guns and others who shoot with $15,000 guns. Some of those guys who shoot cheaper mid range guns could buy the $15,000 guns easier than some of the people who own, but, they may not think that would be a good idea. We all have different ideas about what breaks the bank.

We also have ideas that change what we will spend and think fair. I shoot trap with a Winchester 101, which is far from the least expensive trap gun but a long ways from the most expensive. I am not likely to ever spend much more for a trap gun. However, my wife packs a Boberg for self defense and I never thought twice about the price for it or the holster she chose. Some things are more important that others and than can affect what we think about price.
