S&W 910 9mm - Verdict?

The local Cabela's has a used one for $325 with 2 mags and the case. It felt pretty good in my hand. Are these decent guns? Junk? Good price?

I think so. $325 is about what used ones are going for on Gunbroker and in local (DFW) pawn shops...

I'd get it, if you want one.

 

As long as you like a TDA trigger you'll probably like the gun. They're well built and reliable.

 

One of my best friends got one used for about $350 that had less than 20 rounds for it. I have fired it on many occasions and it's a relatively nice pistol for how inexpensive it is. The weight feels good to me and it is pretty comfortable in my hands (I guess you could say my hands are towards the big side). It has been very reliable when clean but needs to be cleaned every 300 rounds or so or else it starts to jam up a little. If I remember correctly, I believe that his is a DA/SA trigger that can be converted to DAO. I would say for $325 and it's in good condition, I would pick it up.

I have no idea what S&Ws reputation is concerning their semi-autos. Everyone I know have their revolvers.

I'm not sure if I want one. I'm looking to get another hang gun to take to the range. Right now I have a 92FS and I'm just looking for something a bit different.

 

Good price on a great pistol, IMHO. Mine has had thousands of trouble free rounds through it. It eats everything, is accurate and reliable, and looks like what a semi auto pistol should, to me. Good luck!

I've got one I bought at a pawn shop with less than a box of cartridges shot through it. shoots good. fairly lightweight. 10 round mag but hi-cap will fit.

 

The 910 is just the latest version of the very improved and proven Model 59. Before the switch to the DAO guns, the 659 and 5906 were VERY popular with Chicago TAC cops. Reliable, sturdy, and with improved trigger and ergonomics with the 5900 3rd Generation. Get it.

 

Only caveat is that the slides and frames are not(on most Value Series 910's and 915's) machined to the same profile as the 5906, therefore they will not fit in a holster that has been tightly boned to fit the 5906 specifically. If you intend to carry it for CCW or uniformed duty carry, you will need either a 910-specific holster or a generic-fit nylon holster.

 

I had a 915 for years and never had any problems with it. It was reliable, accurate and durable. I sold it to finance the purchase of a Sig P226, but I wish I had waited a couple of months and saved the money to buy the Sig without selling the 915. The only thing I didn't like about it was that I bought these really nice wood grips for it, and it didn't fit my hands as well with the grips on it; maybe I should have sanded them down a bit.

I don't know how good that is for a price, but I think I paid around $400 new in 1995.

 

I have over 5000 rounds through my 910, its a great gun, trust my life to it. It's easy to clean and very reliable.

 

If it is a range gun, I would buy a Police trade in 5906.

The 910 is a dead reliable carry gun but has a alloy frame.

I've never had a S&W metal-frame auto that was not 100% reliable. If you like it - i.e., it fits your hand and you are comfortable with TDA operation and the slide-mounted safety - get it.

This model was originally conceived after the "assault weapons" ban took effect to take 10-round magazines, but it should take any 59 series 15-round mag.

 

Yes....I had the 910 & the 915, not at the same time...Very reliable, fair trigger, good accuracy....Like many, regret selling them but needed the $$$ at the time....
