I picked this up today. My daughter is about to turn 21 and home from college. I want her to take the CCW class this summer and send her back armed and trained. I looked at a lot CCW pistols. So many to choose from. This one just kept popping up with a lot of positive reviews. Watched plenty of YouTube videos on it and decided to order one. Haven’t shot it yet. We plan to do so Sunday. I have to say my initial impressions are great. It fits great in my hand with both the 10 & 12 round mags. The trigger is great. For such a small pistol I feel like I would be in a good position if god forbid I had to use it to save myself. It feels like a full sized pistol but is tiny and weighs nothing. I have a Ruger LCP and held them side by side. With the 10 round mag in the S&W is basically the same size. The S&W is like a real pistol and no comparison (Granted it cost twice as much). I may by another one after I send this off with my daughter when she turns 21 and has her license. S&W did a good job when they designed this one.

I bought one when they came out last year, and then my wife then got one as well. Ours have been good, but there's a lot of mixed reviews out there. Good design, but manufacturing is another animal altogether. Some have sights that are not aligned correctly, and are a PITA to adjust. Some with recoil spring issues, the safety is next to useless, but loading the mags to capacity is a common criticism. Luckily have had good luck with ours, but the M&P Forum is littered with 2.0 threads, one user had an ejector fall out of his. Hopefully you got a good one, they are actually fun to shoot little guns, but I'm only carrying one when it's stupidly hot out, as it is now.

Good luck, and let us know how it shoots!

These tempted me something terrible. Ended up with a Ruger LCP Max and I’m plum tickled with it.

I hope she likes it and that it gives her a lifetime of trouble-free protection.

So glad you are actively taking care of your daughter.

I like the way you think.

Love your avatar pic!

I bought one a few months ago. Discovered it during a gun show, where my youngest daughter and I went to look at handguns she might want to get. That's one that made her short list and I remember thinking "DADDY wants this one!"

Anyway, it's a very nice pistol. I got the one with the thumb safety. Some comments:

Out of the box, the thumb safety is STIFF. I sat in my car after I left the store and cycled it 100 times and it was MUCH better afterwards. Also cycled it an additional 100 times after the initial cleaning/lubricating before I went to the range. The also helped settle it.

Magazines: I can get 10 rounds in the 10 round magazine. That 10th round is a challenge, but it WILL go. However, I cannot for the life of me get the 12th round in the 12 round magazine. It feels like an 11 1/2 round magazine, if you get what I'm saying. I have a magazine loader I might try later, but I'm not worried about it.

The front sight is noticably off center to the right. This causes it to shoot to the left a bit. But the groups are TIGHT. I cannot, for the life of me, move that front sight. I'm gonna take it to a local gun smith and let them have a shot at it.

For a micro pistol, it's VERY comfortably in my hand, most especially with the 12 round magazine.

Not a single misfire, ejection problem, chambering problem, or any other problem with 900 rounds and no cleaning yet. It feels good in the hand and follow up shots are sweet.

Knowing my youngest daughter the way I do, I went ahead and bought a second one. This way I'll still have one when one disappears after a visit from her.

We haven't shot the second one yet, but that front sight on it looks centered. If I think about it later, after we shoot it some, I'll post another comment on it.

Here's the target for the first range trip with the first.

Almost exactly the same story for my youngest girl and I. We had been trying to find her a carry piece (that she would actually carry) and after renting and shooting a 2.0 we bought it on the spot. I bought myself one the following week.

We had the same experience with the magazines. Although I CAN get round 12 in with the help of a loading tool, I carry it downloaded to 11. She took both of the 10-round mags for hers.

We have one with and one without the safety. She took the safety model because it's often in a bag or jacket pocket (Sticky holster). Her small hands actually have less trouble actuating it than mine.

The range-rental gun we tried ran perfectly and shot to POA. Grouping was shockingly good at 7YDs. Her gun shoots POA, but mine is off just a hair- not enough to matter a danger close distances. I keep forgetting to bring my sight pusher to the range....🤪

Both of our guns needed a short break-in period, and we did have some FTE and light-strikes out of the box with both. After 50-100 rounds they are now running 100%.

Overall, very happy with the 2.0. 👍

Good job! I am very enamored of my BG2.0 and have carried mine every day for about 9 months now. I’ve put about 1500 rounds through it without issue. The safety is stiff as has been said but I like that in a pocket gun (I pocket carry in a Sticky holster). I feel well defended with 11 rounds of Federal HST’s on board. Really the only criticism I have is with the recoil spring, which is “fiddly” to get back into place. Others say they dislike the fact that the rear sight must be removed in order to remove the striker for cleaning. I clean the striker in place with carb cleaner instead and have had zero problems.

S&W must have the same person installing the front sight on the BG and the Shield Plus . My Shield Plus was shooting way to the left . I had read about the BG front sight being off and doing the same so I looked at mine closer and I could see that it was favoring the right side and not center on the slide . I didn’t like doing it because mine has night sights , but I drifted it to the center with a brass punch and got it hitting close to POA now . It took some effort to move it . The 13 round mag has the same issue as the BG 12 round , you can’t get that last round in it . I guess we need to write S&W and tell them to take that cross eyed guy off off the assembly line .

I bought this one slightly used with two holsters and a kydex trigger cover for pocket carry. Had to drive a bit for the meeting but $100 less than new. Not a fan of striker fired pocket guns but must say this one would be carried. A coworker is trying it out now and I asked if he had ever held one, he wasn’t sure. I told him if he had held one, you wouldn’t forget it. They do truly have a memorable feel in the hand. He was very impressed by the size and feel of the gun.

I've got two of them. The first was an early model and the second was purchased a month ago. (Neither has the thumb safety.) The first has about 2000 rounds through it and the second has about 100 through it. S&W has made a few rolling modifications. The newer one does not have the slight ridge at the top of the ramp that is a part of the frame. The front sight is centered on the second one, unlike the first. It was easier to load both magazines with the second one, but I still have a really hard time getting 12 rounds in that magazine, and I download to 11. Because of the amount of rounds fired through the first, my trigger pull is down to about 4 pounds. The trigger on the new one out of the box was 5+ pounds. I dry fired the new one extensively for two nights and the trigger pull is down to 4-1/2 pounds.

This gun is very tight. S&W crammed as much magazine capacity as it could into the smallest gun it could. That means all the springs are tight. In addition, the slide to frame fit is very tight. My first one with the largest round count still has a very tight slide to frame fit. My best advice would be to buy some spare magazines and shoot it a lot to break-in and vet everything. It looks like their website is being updated, but I have recently bought 1000 round cases of WWB ammo from SGAmmo in the $320 range shipped (plus tax). After that, spend some money on a sufficient supply of carry ammo to vet that in the carry magazines.

My only complaints about the gun are that the rear sight has too wide of an opening that makes precision shots difficult as distance increases, and the front sight is too small. (It appears that RetiredUSNChief may disagree, based on the above target!) I added a set of XS R3D 2.0 sights which are bigger and brighter and have a more traditional opening in the rear sight. But, I shoot the gun at the same distances as any other gun, including full sized ones. Most people should be happy with them out to 10 yards.

I purchased my bodyguard 2.0 about a year ago and had most of the problems everyone has mentioned here. However, this gun feels so good and shoots so well that I had to keep it as my EDC gun. I had to play with the safety to get it to work and there was a YouTube video showing how to mess with the small safety spring in the catch, which made it much easier to manipulate. The slide was difficult for me with my arthritic hands, and reassembling the gun was almost impossible until I had Smith & Wesson send me a new guide rod and spring. It also shot left as most everyone had mentioned. I put X/S sites on my Bodyguard 2.0 but then eventually went to a Romeo Zero red dot site (yes I know that’s crazy) and I love shooting it. I carry it in a Fobus holster, which is so comfortable considering the gun weighs hardly anything. As everyone mentioned, trying to load the magazines, for me, was impossible without using an upLula loader. I’ve also put a Hogue rubber “slip-on” grip on the Bodyguard and it feels so much better than the factory grips.

With all that said, I have to mention that I just purchased a Glock 42 which feels really comfortable and shoots really well. It may give my Bodyguard 2.0 a run for its money but I still love that BG and cannot foresee switching it out.

I don't have small hands. They're not catcher's mitts by any stretch, but they're used to work.

One of the things that struck me as a micro-pistol is how it very nicely fit my hand, especially with that 12 round magazine. It just feels GOOD.

That's one of the things I love about gun shows...you can find a huge variety of firearms and actually see how they feel in your hand.

Not only does this feel good in the hand, the 9.8 ounce empty weight adds up to a VERY comfortable 15.8 ounces with the 12 round magazine and 12 rounds of 95 grain ammo. It's really a sweet feel.

I'd never heard of them until I saw one at a local gun store. The gunsmith I've used for 40 years works there part time and if he highly recommends something I listen. I came back the next day and traded them a Smith M&P 22 that I no longer need along with $250 and bought it home.

I've only had it to the range once and I'm impressed. It shoots way better than something that small should. I've got a feeling I'll have to buy a 2nd one for my wife.

Started wondering why I bother with small 9x19s when the smaller more friendly to shoot 9x17 2.0 is as good as it is.

147 gr bullets at 975 fps vs 95 gr bullets at 955 fps.

My G43 and Sig 365 are still pretty small, and I'd love to have the extra power. But to have a pistol that small, with 10 or 12 round mag capacity and be that accurate is hard to argue with. If it's practical to carry the bigger gun I will. But this gun is scarcely larger than my Kel-Tec P3-AT. The Kel-Tec is NOT accurate and almost jumps out of my hand when pulling the trigger.

My daughter and I have been tag teaming it racking the slide, dry firing, working the safety, etc. I figured we could break it in a little and get her used to handling it before we head to the range on Sunday. I went ahead and bought the model with the safety as the cost was the same. I don’t see it as something I would personally use while carrying as it is small and stiff (getting better as I work it up and down watching tv). That said having the safety may be useful in certain situations so after debating with myself I bought the safety model. I watched a lot of YouTube videos on this pistol and they were all very positive. Some did shoot left though. Now my wife wants one. The more I handle this thing the more I like it. Hopefully that won’t change once we get to go shoot it. If the shooting part goes well I may end up with a couple more for my wife and me. With three of us I will need to invest in some 380 reloading dies as it will get expensive.

I don't have a problem with swiping my safety off with my thumb. But I could see where others could.

We haven't shot the second one yet. It'll loosen up a bit with use, I'm sure.

I only use the manual safety for administrative stuff, like tucking it in a lockbox.
The magazines are really the only recurring blister. Some 10s will hold 10, and still lock in against a closed slide. Others will not. I don't top off a carried magazine, and the backup mag may or may not have 10 rounds, depending on the tightness of the particular magazine.
Haven't been able to identify what makes for this variability, but they gun runs my 900'sec handloads, and 880'sec Hornady XTPs.
Replaced the rear sight with one from a BG1.0, which fits fine, and has a much narrower slot. The 'night sight' is about worthless, so it got a dab of white paint, which actually shows up better. Yes, the sights are tough to move, but the gun shoots straight, and to the sights.
It's really a sweet feel.
My personal measure of grip goodness is squeezing it as hard as possible; if it still feels good, I'm happy.
This thing fits me like a glove.

Probably my last post on this but wanted to flow up after shooting it for the first time today. First the pistol shot well. 100 rounds and no malfunctions. 6”-8” groups off hand at 15 yards. Our groups were centered using the 6 o’clock hold (did not shoot left). First time loading the mags today and can confirm the spring is stiff. It got better as we went. My daughter did struggle with mag loading and was good for the first few then I had to finish loading (ordered a bodyguard 2.0 specific mag loader off Amazon for $13 tonight for her to use). I think the 10 round mag is more like a 9 round mag and the 12 round mag is 10-11 round mag in reality. When we got home I dug out my mag loader and struggled but got 11 rounds in the 12 round mag. I struggled and got 10 rounds in the 10 round mag but the 10th round isn’t fully seated in the mag and couldn‘t budge it. I am going to leave the mags loaded for a while and see if they loosen up. Good news is cleaning the pistol after getting home, a few drops of Rem Oil on the safety and trigger parts, it is much better. Trigger is even better, really nice. The safety is pretty much usable now, still needs a little breaking in but has done a 180 and think it will be fine to actually use In a CC situation. That’s my report. Overall pleased with it. Really the only complaints are the stiff loading mags that should get better and I wish the safety lever was an 1/8” or so longer ( for more leverage) but it’s coming around.

For holsters I got a Sticky SM5 and this one-

Very happy with both. 😊
