A S&W Model 10-6 would have been made sometime between 1962 and1977 (more or less). By that time serial numbers had letter prefixes - most likely a "C" or "D"
The serial number is probably stamped on the bottom of the butt, but it may be covered by target-style stocks. If so, you'll have to take the stocks off to see the number. It is possible the serial number is stamped on the frame behind the yoke (swing out the cylinder to see it), but it is more probable that this is an assembly number.
