I kinda have a hankering for a S&W 3913, but I'm thinking that there is/was a variant of this pistol produced in DAO.

    Can anybody help me out?

Yes, I believe it's the 3953. I'm sure someone will be along to correct me if I'm wrong.:p

My local gun shop has one of those sitting on the shelves right now. It's a nice piece, and not real pricey used.

What are the DAO triggers like on these Smiths? Smooth? Heavy?

I'd heard that the DAO Smiths were "precocked" and tended to be about 2-3 pounds lighter than the traditional Double Action triggers. Heavier than a Glock or an XD, but on par with a good revolver.

I have a 4063 (?) as my bedside gun. It's an excellent DAO trigger if one has the action polished--or you shoot it a lot.

S&W DAOs do indeed have sweet triggers, with a shorter stroke than the DA first shot of the traditional DA versions. My 3953 is with a dear friend, who can keep it as long as she needs it. I would not trust her life to less than the best, and that little gun has always been 100% reliable.
