Just wondering if anyone has purchased a S&W M&P 22 magnum pistol? I have been looking for a reliable 22 mag semi auto for a long time. Tried the Walther WMP, Rock Island 22 mag 1911, and the Keltec. All have had issues that just wouldn't go away... Failure to feed, Failure to fire...etc...etc..etc.. I recently purchased the S&W semi auto 22 mag and I was pleasantly surprised...really surprised. I have put over 1000 rounds through this little beast and it has been awesome. Only issue was during the sub 200 round range, had 1 failure to fire with CCI 40 HPs, and 1 Failure to feed with the Hornady 45 grain critical defense rounds. After that, I've run Reminton 40 grain JHPs, Federal 50 Grain HPs, Hornady Critical Defense 45 grain, and my Favorite, Federal 45 Grain Punch HPs. Just went over the 1000 round mark today and I have had absolutely no issues... I love the 22 mag round, due to its versatility, and price point. In fact I was so impressed with this firearm, It is now my home defense weapon of choice with the 45 Grain Federal punch ammo. I had been using my Ruger GP100 357 for that duty, but always worried if I ever had to use it, the rounds would go through my walls and into one of my neighbors houses. Anyway, with a 30-round mag on the S&W... If you don't hit the perp, you're going to scare him to death...LOL I'd like to hear if anyone else has tried this pistol and what are your thoughts. Thanks all for listening.

I've emailed S&W about the possibility of a model in .17 HMR. They already have experience with the Tempo system with a tapered round in the 5.7 model, so why not? Could be a fun shooter.

Ya, Id like to see that... Very fast round and just fun to shoot. Having a 30 round mag full would be awesome...

I have the Rock Island .22 mag 1911 you mentioned. Took a few boxes of ammo to find what it liked to eat and about 100+ rounds to feed reliably. The pistol likes to run wet and thankfully likes the bulk box CCI .22 mag from Wally World. 125 rds per carton. Love that it is all steel !

I had the RIA 22 mag kind of a 1911 and finally gave up on it. It was far too ammo pickey and other than the noise and fireball didn't seem to give much more bang for my buck. That is when it would go "bang" or more like "crack". I liked everything about it except that every round or two I had to clear a jam and never found any ammo it was reliable with. Recently I handed a grandson over $100 worth of 22 mag ammo to shoot in his rifle and have more left due the RIA turning up it's nose at firing it.

All is not lost for in the world of 22 mag as I have a Ruger Super Single Six and will digest anything with either cylinder. I will slowly get rid of my remaining ammo stach of 22 mag with it.

This was about the S&W and while a good looking pistol I don't think I want to take a chance on one considering all the flops over the years that have been made with semi-auto 22 mag attempts..

Yea, it should have some blast and flash, but not too bad IMHO, definitely not like my NAA mini revolver. I'm still very interested.
It is very loud, and depending on the ammo you choose, it has a very impressive muzzle flash. CCI seems to create the biggest boom with this pistol, but I do get some blow back powder from it. Federal 45 grain (Punch) seems to be the best I've tried

1 thousand rounds+ and I've only had 1 failure while breaking in.... Its definitely a fire breather....

If you are looking for a "reliable" 22 Magnum handgun ...
Look at ... revolvers .
Reliability in Semi-auto in 22 Magnum is tough ...
Single or double action revolvers are a walk in the park on a sunny day with your best girl !
Easy as pie !

Smith and Wesson has done the round Justice. I really have had no issues with the WMP 22 Mag. Its been a blast to shoot and have had no failures after breaking it in. (0-150 rounds) It is the best 22 mag semi auto I've owned. Check it out.... 1000+ rounds later and its still blasting them out there...no issues... I also have a 22 mag revolver, S&W 648, and I love it. Its never failed...But...30 rounds as opposed to 8.... The M&P is my choice for Home defense... Thats just me

I bought one a couple of years ago, but I have yet to shoot it...no reason, other than sometimes I forget I have it. I do own a Kel-tec PMR 30, and in the beginning I had issue until I fixed the magazine catch and also I make it a point to only shoot 40 and 45 grain 22 mag with it. Lighter than 40 grain bullets and I'll begin to have extraction issues.

I like the look of the S&W .22Mag.

I’m currently at around 800 rounds with a KelTec PMR30 without any issues. Has been dead reliable. Haven’t shot any ammo under 40 grains in it.

I also bought one a while back and have yet to shoot it----between 6-7 day work weeks --motorcycle and travel in the summer and the girlfriend ---- I just get pretty busy---I'll get around to it sometime----maybe soon now that I'm thinking about it---have 3 days off coming up next week but will probably go camping and fishing and get the new battery in the motorcycle that's been sitting in the garage for over a month now.

I really like mine. Had a couple of ftf in the first 50 rnds none since. This is one accurate pistol with most any ammo. I mean like 1.5 in groups at 25yds accurate. Off a rest of course. Worst groups were only like 3 in same distance.

I've had the Rock Island 22 magnum for a few years. Polished the feed ramp and keep it lubed. I use Armscor ammo, what they used to designing it. My favorite range gun, it's a hoot to shoot.

I like shooting my 22 mag revolver. It's almost bizar to see 357 mag fireball and report, but no recoil whatsoever. This looks like a cool little pistol, but I fear $100 of ammo would go by in about 20 minutes. At least it's not 5.7x28 expensive.

That would be like 300 rounds. I'd get bored after 100 and switch to something else.

Mine is a hoot. I sold my Keltec PMR after buying the Smith. The PMR got me hooked on 22WMR out of a pistol but left something’s to be desired, the Smith is a much better pistol in the hand and shooting, the Tempo barrel system works well.

It’s so flat shooting in two ways flat over distance and flat in its recoil. And much more cost effective than the 5.7 for fun.
