I have Model 10-8 Serial E11 7222XX, would like to know when it was made. Is there a reference out there that would tell me?

Thanks in advance.

Doug

Doug I don't believe that you have the Serial Number. Look on the bottom of the grip frame and you should see something like 2DXXXXXX to 30DXXXXXX unless it was made after 1983 when the serial number went to a 3 letter prefix followed by numbers but I believe that the -8 were made from 1977 to 1987. Check that number and come back.

Serial for year of manufacture

Aha! 5D7357X on the bottom of the butt strap...had to remove the hogue monogrip.
The other number is on both the crane and the side of the butt.

According to their (S&W'S) website, the 10-8 is still the current model, but this one has to have been in it's leather holster on someone's hip for a long time to have lost so much bluing.

Appreciate anything you can tell me about this gun.

Doug

Majic is correct, as usual.

No doubt he used the Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson, 2nd Edition, Supica & Nahas.

1979 4D00001 ~ 6D10000

Good job, Majic!

Paperpunchr, is your Model 10 pinned? It should be, as that was dropped by 1981.

It's pinned all right.

Yup...I saw the thread about pinned and recessed and followed it up til I understood what that meant.

"The other number is on both the crane and the side of the butt."

Yes and if you were to take the side plate off you will find it again on the inside of it too. If you don't know how let one of us talk you throught that; it's not hard but there is a trick to it. Don't pry on it!! P.T.
