From an old posting at RimFireCentral.com. Your gun obviously is outside of the numeric range here so I'd guess it was made after 1977.

    Serial #___ Date of Mfg.
    104XX_______ 1958
    149XX_______ 1959
    189XX_______ 1959
    295XX_______ 1960
    1120XX______ 1969
    114XXX____ ~ 1969
    "A" Prefix_____ 1970 with A115001
    A145801_____ 1972
    A225XXX_____ 1973
    A235001_____ 1974
    A265001_____ 1975
    A295001_____ 1976
    A414XXX_____ 1977

INTERESTING, considering the model number is the year the pistol was developed.

    I don't think so.

The S&W Model 41 first came out in 1957.

S&W Model numbers have nothing to do with the year they were developed or introduced.

I remember they were called by name back when I was paying attention to them back in the '60's. "357 Magnum" later became known as the Model 27, "357 Combat Magnum" became Model 19, etc.

1x series is the K frames.
2x series is the N frames.
3x series is the I frame & J frame, up to the model 38.
After that its roughly by year of development/introduction from the Model 39 to the Model 68.
