S&W Model 59. Buy or pass?

I love all S&W handguns in general, but my favorite S&W semiauto is my 745 IPSC .45ACP.

This was my Bullseye 2400 match pistol for the .45 stage for years, and when I first got it I tried downloading .45 ammo in order to lower recoil and get back on target quicker. I reached a point where it wouldn't cycle reliably and I called S&W to talk to a tech about my ammo issue. The tech was great, and suggested I needed their set of 4 mainsprings to be able to choose a spring to ensure proper cycling with light loads. I asked how much and where to send funds? He in turn asked for my address info and told me they'd send the set of springs for free!
I put the lightest spring in and was able to function with 185 grain SWC at 650 fps! Loved the load and the 745!

Hard pass for me. I've been around a few of them and they were not very dependable. I even owned one, briefly. These were earlier ones, so maybe Smith improved the later ones?

Only 1 thing I don’t like about the old S&W autos. Magazine disconnects. Otherwise great guns.

Sounds like a good price-especially with the magazines-for a "semi-collectible". Had a M59, didn't like that aluminum frame, bought my M659 in 1985, still have it.
