I took a mental health day from work today and went to my club to run some .38s through my Model 28-2, 10-8, and Colt Detective Special. It's a few miles from a gun shop that I've spent a lot of money in the past and a little voice inside my head said I should stop there on the way home. I found the voice impossible to ignore and upon entering, I saw a very nice looking S&W Model 66-2 with the 2.5" barrel.

It came home with me.

As purchased it wore a rubber Hogue Monogrip. Those don't fit my hands at all, but I had this set of Thai Magnas and an old FIE grip adapter in my stash.

It was super clean inside. These two pics are before I cleaned anything.

From what I could tell it's hardly been shot since leaving Springfield in the early/mid-80s. I'm pretty sure it was shot with .38s due to crud rings inside each charge hole, but a Brownell's chamber brush took care of them.

And the best part? I paid $720 out the door for it.

If I can sneak out to the range again on Sunday I'll be able to provide a range report.

The quintessential off duty cop gun from the 70’s-90’s. Really a nice gun you found.

Go on EBay and find a nice vintage Bianchi thumb snap belt holster and, rock on.

This one looks right:

I had a 2 1/2” 19. But never really carried it as I have military grade weaponized sweat.

In its place, I have a 2 3/4” Ruger Speed Six. Fixed sights, but, it scratches the itch.

I'd have to find a lefty holster as I am a southpaw.

I also have a 2.75" Speed Six. It's a bit of a tank compared with an K-Frame.

Too funny. I skipped over several left handers!!

A dear friend of mine claims I’m really good at spending other people’s money…she may be right. 😁

In my overly opinionated opinion, the Model 66 in snubby trim is the best ever K-frame concealed carry revolver... beating out even the awesomeness that is the 3" Model 13.

Great score, Dave, and a much better price than we'd see up here in the PNW (right, Mark?).

And who could ever forget Clint Eastwood using this revolver in the classic 1977 flick The Gauntlet?

Sure area of country has a lot to do with it but I saw a local dealer pay $1000 for the same. Planned on narking it for $1500. Good purchase!

Any similar 66 I've seen on Gunbroker has been North of $1000, so I pretty much knew I was buying it when I saw the $675 price tag. (PA's 6% sales tax and the background check fee brought it up to $720 OTD.)

After these Model 66 snub photos, I'm starting rethink my self imposed gun buying moratorium. Maybe I should cut back gradually instead of going "cold turkey."

Don't let anyone here influence you. 🙃
