I respectfully submit a portion of another one of Dave Campbell's knowledgeable articles on S&W:
I do not wish to debate who is or isn't correct, here; only to introduce another perspective on the subject of manufacture date. I am certainly no expert.

I enjoy Dave Campbell's work for American Rifleman. It is possible, however, that he may have it wrong... I'm going to go stand over there while all this shakes out.

no dash has a serial number that starts with a 9k, showing as being produced in 1976.
