I pickp a 66-1 w 2.5" the other week and think that might be my carry gun when my permit comes in. Now i've heard that the rear sight blade can be a little tough on clothing and flesh so I thought about replacing it w C&S extreme duty fixed rear sight. If you've done this would definately like to hear from you, or if you have an opinion chime in. All help appreciated.

Depends on holster

There are quite a few varieties of snubby revolver holsters out there, and some are designed to cover the rear sight area and possibly the hammer with leather on both sides. If you found one of these for your model 66, it would prevent the rear sight blade from hitting your clothing or your side.

Here is a picture of my Colt Detective Special in a DeSantis speed scabbard holster to show you what I mean. The leather extends beyond the hammer and rear sight area on both front and back of the holster.

Unfortunately I already have a mitch rosen holster that I like for her. I also should have stated that I have experience w the C&S sight on my 386 night guard. and w the big honkin fs it has its a good combo, just wondering how it might work w red ramp fs. But I do appreciate you input and I probably would consider the holster if I didn't already own one.

I don't think that the red-insert front sight is tall enough for the C&S rear. Mine wasn't.

I installed an XS/Trijicon Big Dot front on my 686SSR. The standard, adjustable, rear wasn't "tall" enough. That XS tritium sight is .300in tall! The C&S "fixed" rear is just right for me.

The 686SSR, being "new" production, has a "round" edge to the rear sight assembly. Your early 66 requires a "square" leading edge to the rear sight. Be careful when ordering!
