Am looking at a Blued NIB 6904 in 9mm with extra mags and a couple of 20 rnd mags. Price is high …. $600. Would have liked it in stainless. It feels good. Anyone have any experience with this piece especially reliability.

Every third gen smith I have, including a 6904 and a 6906, are all dead nuts reliable. People are beginning to rediscover these guns, and the prices are going up on them. Some parts are unobtainum but spring kits are the most common need, and they’re still out there.
FYI, though, the 6906 is one of the departures from the standard chart. You’d expect all stainless, but it’s not. Stainless slide in an alloy receiver….

The 69XX is a far superior platform for carry over something like a G19 or P320.

The only draw back is the weight. Accuracy on mines 5906/6906 are superior to the brand new G17-G19 either wtih my ammo or factory, not much but better.

Are there any other brands of magazines that can be made to fit the 59 and 69 series?

Been looking to getting one, but have to have spare magazines, and original S&W are getting harder to find.

The Daewoo/ Lionheart DP51 mags can be made to fit by trimming the baseplates.

Carefully inspect the grip module retaining pin hole (at the bottom of the grip) for cracks. Also, there were 4-5 different colored magazine followers and the yellow and red ones are prone to cracking. Last I heard replacement followers were still available, I believe the latest ones are blue.

Aluminum framed models should have the slide rails checked for pitting/galling.

Otherwise, they are GTG for reliability.

Website for Mec-gar says they are out of stock. Midway is out of stock...Like most places it seems...the search goes on.

I have a 6906. Absolutely flawless and extremely accurate with anything I feed it.

I watch CDNN for magazine and there is another guy with a website…Greg Cote LLC (Google him). He will occasionally have surplus magazines.

S&W mags work in the kel tec p-11. Will $25 12 round kel tec mags work in the smiths?

I’m assuming they do? Too short?

No, the P-11 mags are too short.

If you get tight for a mag, any of the Beretta 92 type mags will work--just need to cut another slot for mag catch. It'll stick out the bottom of grip, same as a Model 59 mag.

The Meg Gar's are every bit as good as OEM (and probably are OEM, for at least some
    of S&W's mags).

These guys have been around for years, and seem to get good ratings...
