Hey good folks,
I'd like to pick up a holster for my N frame S&W 25-5 with a 4" barrel. Where's a good place to shop for an N frame smith holster?

~Thanks, John

Any of the regular manufacturers make holsters for N-frames. What kind of holster are you looking for?

Leather? Kydex? OWB, pancake, paddle, IWB, shoulder, ankle, "Thunderwear?"

Concealed carry? Field use? Competition?

Give us something to go on and I'm sure we'll all have some specific suggestions.

I have a "field" holster from Triple K (IIRC) that I bought the day I got my 629. I think I used it once -- it was there on the shelf and I needed something that weekend. "Field" holsters aren't my thing. (For sale cheap if you want it. :))

I generally use a "Bruce Nelson" or "Tunnel" style leather OWB from Ray's (http://www.shado.com/Leather-Holsters/Sable-Leather-Belt-Holster.html) called the "Sable." That's my competition and carry holster. Very well made and $35. Rides tight and high enough to conceal under a jacket or sweatshirt.

Last time I checked S&W sells holsters for their handguns. They are made by another maker but sold through S&W. Any quality maker should have something available for you.

N-frame ankle holster?

I've got to believe someone makes one, though I wouldn't care to lug around that bulky a gun that way.

I'll recommend you try a paddle holster: the paddle looks funny, but spreads out the weight and makes it much more comfortable to carry the gun. Any holster is good enough for five minutes; after hours on end, comfort begins to turn very important.

Another vote for Simply Rugged. Very nice quality holster for under $60, IIRC. For more money, you can get pretty fancy, but the basic Sourdough pancake is quite nice in it's most basic form. As a bonus, it can be used IWB, but for me they sit a little high for IWB carry.

I have an "Enhanced Pancake" from Lobo Gun Leather that is nice. But, the Simply Rugged Sourdough is by far my favorite holster for field use. I have it for my SP101, GP100, and a variety of N Frames. Very secure, looks good and wears very well. I'll probably not bother trying any other holster for revolvers.

Another vote for Simply Rugged. I have one for my .44 Mountain gun. Very comfortable and it can be worn cross draw or strong side as there are 3 belt slots.

I'm not even sure these are all still in business, but you can find something I'm sure.

For years I carreid my 4" N frame in a Bianchi 5BH or the Safariland equivalent. I also have and recommend the Simply Rugged Pancake holsters.

Lobo gun leather made my IWB for a 627. I recommend them, and I have a S&W holster with thumbbreak that is very comfy for OWB.

And another vote for Simply Rugged, Just got one for my Model 66. Very nice work. Pretty quick to fill the order too.

Belt too

You already have a number of excellent holster makers to consider. I use a DeSantis Thumb Break and a Bianchi Cyclone for my N-frames. The pancake platform DeSantis carries a little better than the Bianchi but binds some on the draw.

You will definitely need a super strong gun belt, and they are not all created equal. I have accumulated several gun belts and nothing I have compares to Beltman's belts. I could have saved a lot of money by getting a Beltman first. I went with a 1 3/4" 7 hole version and believe it is unsurpassable. .loohttp://www.beltman.net

I got this dual position Galco holster for $70 off of ebay for my 329PD (retail at $120).
