We see lots of only one gun threads and “one of each” threads, but I have never seen a thread around here for this.

You pick a single “model” on each frame. Make sure you make consideration for the dash as those changes can be important, as are barrel length, grips, finish etc... Guns are to shoot, not to stare at.

Topbreak- 38 safety hammerless 3rd change. Have one and love the feel. 3” barrel is nice on such a small gun too.

i-frame- Terrier.

J frame- I really like my 30-1 and I really like the Altai grip from Altamont

K frame- tough call, but I’m going to stick with a model 15 no-dash 4”

L frame- precision gun. 586-3 8-3/8 barrel, target sights

N frame- 29, scoped, LOONNNGGG barrel

X frame-500 because I shot one a few times. It lived at my house during a coworkers rough divorce, and in payment for keeping it healthy, I got to put a box of 20 through it. Don’t care about any options, but I want the set of options that makes it heaviest, and then I want it ported.

J Frame - Model 36 or 637 a DAO revolver is just plain dumb to me

K Frame - Model 19 all the way nothing more needs to be said

L frame - 586 L Comp, has beaten every 686 and 69 I have owned

N Frame - Model 29 5 inch barrel with full underlug

J- something with a 4" barrel in 22lr and adjustable sights. Finish is irrelevant. For game/plinking

K- 2 3/4ths M19-5 for concealed carry

L- 4" 686-0 for open carry/target shooting

N- 5" 629-4 for hunting

I've already got the K & L frame! I could live without a J frame, my MKIII has my 22 plinking covered. I'm currently on the hunt for my 629 though.

1) J frame- Model 36 with a round butt and 3" heavy barrel
2) K frame- Model 10 with a 4" heavy barrel
3) L frame- Model 686 with a 4" barrel
4) N frame- Model 27 with a 5" barrel

Okay, just play along on the “if I were adding to the collection” mentality

OK, using the "adding" mentality...

J-frame, a Model 431 or a 631 (32 H&R). A 4" barrel would be nice but probably hard to find so a 2" barrel version would be fine.

K-frame, a Model 16-1, 16-2 or 16-3 (32 S&WL). 4" barrel.

L-frame, a Model 696 (44 Special) 3" barrel

N-frame, a Model 24-3 (44 Special) 4" barrel

Hi...
I have the K frame covered with a.38Spl. Model 10, the L frame with a.357Mag. 686 Silhouette Model and the N frame with a 29, 25 and a 57., which covers the .44 Magnum, .45Colt and .41 Magnum.

I have the J in a nickel 49 .38...
The K in a 17 .22...
The L in a 686+ 4" matte .357...
and the N in a 629 6.5 Power Port .44.

I have others, but these are the ones I will put out there as my favorites for the frames...

N-frame, a Model 24-3 (44 Special) 4" barrel

See that wasn't so bad...and I really like your JK and L picks, but I'm not sure I'm with you on a N frame 44spl.

How bout a bottom-break Mod.1 .22 Short? Lol.

M- Ladysmith .22

I- M35 .22

J- M349 shrouded .357

K- Got this covered with my 6" nickel and 2.5" blued M19s (both -3), and my Victory Model

L- 6" 686-0

N- 6" M28 Highway Patrolman .357- wouldn't mind finding a M20 in .38-44 some day, though!

X- A snub-nosed .500 of course! Lol.

Z- Ugh, the Governor.....bleh.

Yes, opening up the criteria made it easier.

There is something special about shooting 44 Special in a gun chambered for 44 Special. While the pre-Model number S&W guns are fantastic firearms, my personal preference is primarily for Model numbered guns made before the turn of the century.

Besides, 44 Magnum N-frames are a "dime a dozen".:)

Hope that explains my N-frame choice even if you do not agree--which is ok.

Oh, I forgot, I already have an X-frame 460 XVR (8-3/8" barrel). I see no need to add to the X-frame collection. The 460 S&W Magnum does a fine job at wrist snapping recoil and 427 cu in block busting performance.

I've only got the big four.

For a J it's a 642 Ladysmith. 38 Special

ebd4e9d3-53cc-4454-b2ed-96f16ac7558d_zpsyo2sev1d.jpg

For a K, the K-22, Combat Masterpiece from 1951. 22 LR

For the N, it's a Model 27-2, with a 4" barrel. 357 Magnum/38 Special

And the only L frame I care for is the Model 69. 44 Magnum/44 Special

J-frame: Model 60-4 (.38 Special, 3" barrel, adjustable sights,"Trail Masterpiece").

K-frame: Model 14 (.38 Special, 6" barrel, "K38 Masterpiece").

L-frame: Model 686-5 Plus (.357 Magnum, 4" barrel).

N-frame: Model 25-2 (.45 ACP, 6" barrel, "1955 Target").

having said that a 642-a 66-a 686- a stainless 29 of some sort and one of the 500 x frames would work :)

this is even more stupid than many if you could only have posts...
It’s serving the purpose I wanted it to though... ideas on where to focus on shooters. I haven’t really paid much attention to larger revolvers, and smaller revolvers are more plentiful, so they are more readily available and are more likely to be available in “beater” condition cheap enough to acquire and use.

I still might have to build my dream S&W though as a k32 masterpiece in 32 mag is unobtanium. I might just buy another 30 or 31 and mill a sight base. 30 and 31 are 32 long, but would fill that void nicely.
