I tried a S&W Schofield at the Shooting Sports Center about a year ago and came away with a negative impression of the gun. The main reason was that the way the trigger is constructed, as I pulled the trigger, my trigger finger was forced upwards on the trigger, making for a very uncomfortable trigger pull. The whole thing just did not sit well in my hand, but that could be me and the gun. My best suggestion is to find one that you can shoot first before you make a buying commitment. Maybe see if there are any Single Action Shooting Society (SASS) events in your area.
I have been looking at Navy Arms recently and think they may be worth a try as Josey suggested.
