Hello everyone:

Iam new in the forum,i write from Spain.Anyone of you compite with this revolver,I usually compite in IPSC with CZ.What do you think about compiting with this (my gun)in IPSC,IDPA ...

Best regards

It's a fine firearm for IDPA SSR Division and on my to buy list.

For IPSC it's not the best choice. There is no barrel length restriction in IPSC, so the six inch S&W Model 625 is the preferred gun, as the short fat .45 ACP rounds are easier to load using full moon clips than the long skinny .357 magnum.
If your country restricts calibers above .38 or military calibers then it is a good choice for IPSC.

It will also be at a disadvantage for ICORE where there is no maximum round count, so the 627 or the 686 Plus have the advantage in that game.

A 686 would be a fine gun for IDPA and ICORE. If you're a club-level shooter, it will also be fine for IPSC, but if you're serious about IPSC, a moonclipped .45 ACP will make it easier. With a 4" .45 ACP, you can be competitive in all 3 disciplines.

The SSR looks like a fine gun, and I've shot a friend's. I wouldn't say it shot any better than my tuned standard 686, and a little customization makes my 686 feel better to me. Another option, then, might be to buy a standard 686 then have it tuned & customized by a good gunsmith. To me, it comes down to how satisfied I'd be with an stock SSR and whether I'm willing and able to send my gun to a 'smith for tuning.

It will also be at a disadvantage for ICORE where there is no maximum round count, so the 627 or the 686 Plus have the advantage in that game.

A 6-shot speedloader-fed 686 competes in the the Retro (now called Classic) division. The 627/686P would compete in Limited, so there's no disadvantage to competing with a 686SSR.

I use a 4" 686 for IDPA ESR and love it! This gun has been moon clipped by Alex Hamilton at Ten Ring Precision in Texas (http://tenring.com/contact2.html). I am really impressed by the solid way the thin clips hold a cartridge that was not meant to be loaded that way. Because of the way the cylinder is cut for the clips I have the option of shooting it as SSR and use speed loaders or using it with the moon clips in ESR. For ESR it must make major and for that I use a 180gr gas checked slug in a 38spl case over Titegroup that yeilds 950 fsp. This makes major with relatively low pressure giving a very pleasant and controlable recoil and the short case yields a fast reload. I have a 610 which I could use but I find the K & L frame guns to be easier to shoot due to their smaller cylinder and frame. There is a guy on Ebay who is now producing the Dade County speed loaders at a very reasonable price. I have about 5 of them and they work very well. I'm not sure if he will ship outside of the US.

I have one of these in the shop and it will be all I can do not to take it home. This thing is made to shoot. Excellent trigger, slight over-timing. A person would have a hard time wearing one out. You could buy a stock 686 and have a gunsmith tune it, but you would have way more in the gun than the SSR costs.
