Sad day today at LGS

I have had to branch out a lot as politics here in my state has everyone local hanging onto their guns for fear they won't be able to buy more.
Very little used inventory to browse through. Limited selection of new guns because LGS's don't want to commit to inventory that might be outlawed before it sells.
So i've gone online for most of my hunting.
Different than in Seattle where nobody wants their inherited guns so they are basically giving them away.
and I’m here to rescue there unwanted guns! warn oil bath and fresh ammo for their hungry mags… poor babies

Lo-Profile: Despite the disappointment at a gun store, do you have convenient access to open land where you can shoot any type of target at 2, 3, 400-yards?

If you are into rifles then maybe you are blessed in this manner.

Fwiw my S.A. M1A Standard (2021-22 vintage) has been perfect with all 1,600 documented rounds and a single CMI magazine.

There are definitely quite a few guns I’d love to buy, including some I have little practical use for (like a 5.7x28 plinking pistol or a scoped .357 revolver), but have other financial priorities right at the moment. I have, however, discovered that the variety, quality, and value per dollar for optics and accessories seems to get better every year, such that I have rescoped/re-optic’d a couple of my existing rifles in the past couple years, and swapped an old-school Surefire G3 light in a GG&G ring for a far newer, smaller, lighter, and brighter Streamlight, and am tickled with the upgrades. I want to put a red dot on my old USPSA pistol next, I think.

Will get back to gun buying in a bit, after I’m all caught up on all the car maintenance for all my extended family’s older vehicles, and am done fiddling with a project boat I rescued for super cheap. (In reality of course, there is no such thing as a cheap boat, as you’ll pay for it in either dollars or DIY labor, but they are fun too.)

If the used revolver market here was like the area @Mark_Mark lives I would be so broke. Not too many used revolvers in the LGS here and when I do find one they are usually more than I'm willing to give.
on the border of Broke every month here!

Well, they did have a Springfield M1A i would have bought if it was the Scout Squad version.

Many years ago, I was holding out for a Squad Scout. According to SAI, they were not slated for production any time soon, and I didn't want to wait any longer. I trotted down to the LGS intending to buy a Standard, but they had this crazy 16" barreled Socom16 thing hanging on the wall underneath it... I came home with the Socom16. I don't regret buying the S16, but part of me wonders how nice it is shooting a Standard...

I stopped by my LGS yesterday as I was running errands in that part of town, and found he was just back from Tulsa, had added a new rack and had many old guns including a half dozen Remington model 12 pump 22s. Made the mistake of picking up an older Beretta-made Weatherby Mk XXII, and after a bit of due diligence and a price adjustment it came home with me. It is not pristine, but rarely seen in these parts.

Usually there is not much to get me excited, but I am a bit of a sucker for vintage rimfires.

One of my brothers collects pre-war Winchester .22 pumps.
This no-finish plinker is his “working” gun for varmints out at his land…

The more you acquire, the less you find yourself "wowed" by the used rack at the LGS.
Simple laws of physics as far as accumulating...

Being into the "newer" stuff helps, obviously.
Conversely - trying to buy every "good little deal" you run into does not.

If I hadn't taken an affinity for single actions, .45 Colt and unloved .22 rimfires then I probably would have gotten somewhat bored about 10 years earlier than I did. Takes quite a bit for me to pull out my wallet nowadays.

I haven’t seen much either to look at, or even ask to fondle. Other than a nice 9422 I will he picking up tomorrow, there hasn’t been much in my price ranges at all locally.

Stay safe.

I hate to say it, but I haven't been interested in anything at the LGS's here for a long time. Pre covid, I did a lot of buying and trading. Now, everyone thinks their stuff is gold-plated and yours belongs in the trash. I still do a swap with my buddies on occasion, but even that's dried up for lack of inventory. I've also reached the dread point in "collecting" where I like what I have and don't want to get rid of anything! I don't know what to do after reaching that point; does a guy sell off some and start over, or just focus on enjoying what he has?

I’m liking what I have too… unless it’s 60’s & 70’s cool at 10 years ago prices, Don’t really want to too

It's hard to even get excited about the old stuff. I picked up a basket case model 11 remington the other day for $100. After putting it back together it's now my new HD gun. Couldn't pass it up, but if it hadn't been cheap to fix I'd passed it up. But that's the first project I've picked up this year. If things don't change it might be the last!

Thanks, but let me clarify. My statement sorta sounded like I might not live to the end of the year; what I should've said was "if the local gun market don't change" it may be the last one! I admit I was in a bit of a hurry when I posted that but on re-reading it, it does read a little morbid.

I read it the same way, glad all is ok. 👍

Stay safe.

Back in the ‘80s and even up into the ‘90s I would pick up a local “Shopper” the day it came out and go thru the Sporting Goods section real quick when I got to work. There was usually something I was interested in so I would call and make an appointment to see it at noon. Almost never lost a deal that way.
Nowadays there’s not much I’m interested in, especially if it’s new.
Plus, I’m 70 and don’t really have any relatives to leave them to. None that are interested in guns anyway.
I’ve actually sold a few lately simply because I can’t stand the thought of my daughter walking into a LGS and asking “What will you give me for these”?
I’ll be unloading more and more as I get older.

The firearms industry has around a few designs for the most part. Variations/clones of GLOCKs, ARs, 1911s, AKs, and Benelli semi-autos at this point for the most part.

I'm bored with that.

I was deep into the tacticool market and tried to keep up with the jones due to work. But since I've hung up the badge, I'm pretty much done. I'm now the cranky old curmudgeon.

I hunt down the guns I lusted after as a kid. Stuff that'd be in the old magazines Dad had lying around. I would read them when bored. Guns from the 1970s through the 1990s.

Things like a Colt Series 90 Double Eagle (garbage gun, but I want one just to have). Sure, I can buy one right now. But I'm not paying asking price. The fun is the hunt, trying to get one on the cheap.

Trying to do that, and find other things like Valmet bullpup or a nicely sporterized Gew. 88 in a mannlicher stock.

The commercially available stuff right now for the most part for me is "meh."
