I'd call up the front desk and ask them to remove the parental guidance on the wifi. If they can't then I'd put up a stink.

Wow I also work in LA and as many others have posted would be at the front desk and speaking to a manager if necessary right away. ESPECIALLY if I was going to be there for two weeks. Any chance you'll hint at the name or location so I can be sure to steer my business to a more freedom friendly establishment?

Baton rouge! That's what i don't get I have worked here for years and normally stay at the Marriott and they were booked up and we have direct bill with this company. But I have never seen this before in all my years of travel. On the bright side Jim's Firearms here is awesome! They have a web page but they sell everything! The problem I'm having with the manager is I work from 5p-5a and they are never here when i am up and about. (Problem to remodeling banks)

UPDATE!!
just talked to the guy at the front desk and told him my issue. He said I know its stupid he's into fencing and can't look at that stuff because its a weapon. I said well tell the manager take it off there. He said well I tried and he said no he has it set up like that on purpose. I was like okay well tell him his guest is requesting it off or he's finding another hotel. He said okay I will take care of this for you. I said that's about stupid for anyone to do this and he goes "well you have to think some people want to rent a hotel and learn how to off people with guns and stuff so it might be reasonable" it took all I had to not ROLL ON THE FLOOR! I looked at him and said Really?? Really?? I said that is NOT valid. People can watch TV if they want to learn how. They don't need the web or a hotel. Anyways I am peeing in the wind I'm afraid but that's that...

Tell them you need to run your business from your laptop, and that requires you going to some websights that sell weapon related products, if they don't remove it after asking as mentioned above. Also I can find you and IP spoofing program or free proxy server, on one of my tech websites. But you shouldn't have to go through this in order to exercise your freedom of speech.
There are a million things you could try but first see if they just allow you in. Also let me know if the modem is in your room.

Nobody likes bad press in businesses that are highly competitive. That type of policy will not stand scrutiny OR bad publicity. I'd get on the horn to the higher offices of the motel managment, and tell them that you'll be adding bad reviews to internet sites, and that will be detrimental to their business. They might just understand that and lift the restraints.

If in your work you have access to a printer, hook it to your laptop and make a hard copy of this thread. Then hand it in at the desk.

If that won't work them make a copy when you get home and mail it back to them. Explain that this forum has literally thousands of members and visitors, many of whom will have decided to avoid they're hotel and others in the same chain. This the manager should be able to understand. :uhoh:

[sarcasm]Yep, I saw that episode on CSI: Cluelessville: stone cold killers go to a hotel to learn how to off people.[/sarcasm] It takes special people to rise to management level.
