SAF sent the below email today. I don't know whether the fairgrounds is a governmental entity, i.e. whether this means jurisdictions cannot ban gun shows.

FACING COURT LOSS, DEFENDANTS IN CAL. LAWSUIT SETTLE WITH SAF, PARTNERS
Faced with certain loss in court, defendants in a California lawsuit challenging a gun show moratorium at the Del Mar Fairgrounds in San Diego County have settled with the plaintiffs, including the Second Amendment Foundation and California Rifle & Pistol Association.

In addition, plaintiffs included B&L Productions, Inc., Crossroads of the West, South Bay Rod and Gun Club, Maximum Wholesale/Ammo Brothers and five private citizens.

“This is a victory for the First Amendment as well as the Second,” said SAF founder and Executive Vice President Alan M. Gottlieb. “We’re delighted the 22nd District Agricultural Association and fairgrounds board decided against prolonging a legal action.”

SAF was represented by attorney Don Kilmer, who observed, “The gun culture belongs on Main Street and that is what this lawsuit was all about.”

A preliminary injunction against the fairgrounds moratorium was issued in June 2019.

“Gun shows are considered a First Amendment activity as well as a Second Amendment event,” Gottlieb stated. “Unfortunately, due to the COVID-19 outbreak, we haven’t been able to see a show held at the fairgrounds, but we’re looking forward to hearing from the gun show promotor that a date is set for another gathering sometime this year, hopefully.”

Under the agreement, the defendant will pay SAF’s attorney fees and costs, Kilmer said.

Glad SAF won but what is SAF? Would be nice when a post like this is made that it has an explanation of why, what where and when for those of us that are unfamiliar with an entity like SAF.

Thanks Dunross, I'm looking into joining SAF as I'm disappointed with the NRA and won't donate to them again until Wayne steps down. P.S., I'm a NRA Life Member

This is why I donate to SAF. While lobbying is necessary there is nothing more effective than judicial advocacy. The public is more influenced by court decisions than by lobbying positions and jargon.

Thank you, for questioning the acronyms. NRA= National Association of Realtors and/or? RKBA= Some kinda USSR spy agency? SAF= Sex?

Everywhere you go these days there are acronyms being thrown about like bullets in a John Wick movie. I am glad I am not the only one that finds it irksome.

Nice win, acronyms aside.

There are a couple of groups that do great work and deserve our support. The Second Amendment Foundation (SAF) is one of them! Gun Owners of America is another (GOA).

Reading "stickies" (the posts with a stickpin image affixed to the top pf a forum) are an excellent resource. As are FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)
Many of these initialisms and acronyms have passed in to such common knowledge that they really need no amplification. It's possible that there are those unaware of the meanings of TGIF, LoL, brb, ASAP, and the like--but such answers are just a google away. Which should not be inaccessible to those able to navigate an online forum.

RKBA = [the] Right To Keep [and] Bear Arms, the fundamental concept of natural right to self defense.
NRA = National Rifle Association one of the first RKBA organizations in the US (which has a separate, if similarly named organization in the UK; also the deeply flawed National Recovery Act).
SAF = Second Amendment Foundation, another RKBA organization.
GOA = Gun Owners of America, another RKBA organization

Well, I did not mean my post to be argumentative. As to "the free lunch comment" you know nothing about me but it is well within your right to speculate.

I was agreeing with another member and making an observation with regard to acronyms and their use without definition. It might excite you to know that I do know what NRA, in context of this site, stands for and what NRA relating to housing stands for also. I am far more familiar with the latter than the former.

While I do agree with you that many acronyms are commonplace many others are not. Requiring a reader to go off-site to look up acronyms seems counter-intuitive to the purpose of posting the thread in the first place. But what do I know . . looking up acronyms must be fun because everyone is doing it.

The above is my take on acronyms and the definitions. You feel I should look them all up as I'm reading a post while I feel the author should spell it out within two visible paragraphs as a minimum. We disagree.

And, I may have come across as more absolute than it deserved.

I will, readily, agree that, on a mobile device, popping open a quick google window is a pain. Also, on a mobile device, "typing" can be complicated, and less than easy. So, I can readily understand why some people post iwth a lot of abbreviated terms, as the format "rewards" terseness.

And, our group here at THR spans a wide range of people, not all of whom are in the habit of composed communications. And, there is an understandable expectation that certain shared terminology (including abbreviations and acronyms) help with the precision of our communications.

I will also admit to a bias of 99% using a desktop, so one more browser window is of no effort or issue to me. For that matter, even with 24 years in Naval Service I still kept (keep, come to cases) a DictNav to hand.

Which organization brings the most lawsuits that aim to protect my rights??? I'll contribute. I'm no millionaire, but I have a few dollars to contribute.

I continue to believe that SAF offers the most bang-for-buck in terms of turning back the tide of "gun control" legislation.
