Isn't this why Appleseed banned them? Two years ago
That seems unclear. The problem that Appleseed noticed a large number of was out of battery discharges. That resulted in the rifle being banned at Appleseed events pending a response from S&W. This announcement does not at first glace seem related since the symptom being addressed is slam fires, but it certainly might be. As far as I know, S&W has not provided an adequate response to the out-of-battery issue and the rifle remains banned at Appleseed.

My personal advice would be to avoid the M&P 22 in favor of other .22 autoloaders.

I had the pleasure of attending a train8ng session with Jerry and Kay Michulik last summer. They started us off with the 15-22. Other than being light they are actually very nice guns and we had no issues. That was with four of us working them hard after following Jerry’s lead.

That said, I’m not sure what to say. I guess I hope they figure out the issue or issues and come up with a fix or replacement program.

Just as an aside. I just had a humorous thought so take it only for a laugh. Maybe the auto issue was someone watching Jerry fire the 15-22.

Thanks for the heads up. Have the self-inspection gauge on the way. A .22 rim seems to sit pretty well below the face, and my 8YO has put a LOT of rounds through it with no issues, but better safe than sorry.

1500 rounds through ours with nary a problem. Can’t say that for my 10/22 or jamamatic Model 60. The Plinkster is a decent little shooter though. Oh well, Smith is sending the gauge to me to see if my bolt has to go back to the factory.

For you guys who are knocking them, have you ever owned one and sent hundreds of rounds down range, No?

Anyone know of a source for the depth measurement of the bolt face? That way I can just use the blade on my calipers to measure.
