I recently saw a picture of a SAFN-49 8mm with converted BAR 20 round magazine.
Anyway know how this was done?
I have a good working non matching parts SAFN-49 8mm that I would like to make one up for . From teh picture I looks like no conversion to the gun is required.

To convert an 8mm rifle to use M1918 mags might be more work than to convert a .30-06 version, for the simple reason that the .30-06 (7.62x63mm) is longer than the 8mm Mauser (7.92x57mm).

Actually, what you probably saw was a version made for the Argentine Navy, which was built to take detachable mags. It was chambered in 7.62 NATO. SOG had some for sale a few years ago. Took 'em a while to sell them all because the mags were mostly in bad shape, and replacement mags were hard to find.
