Don't know if this is true, but I have no reason to doubt the poster.
From a Finn on another board:
If I owned one, I'd be contacting Sako directly and finding out if there is a recall.
From a Finn on another board:
I know there's lots of gun collectors here on the board, so I want to warn all of them about the Finnish Sako Winchester 300 Short Mag Finnlight rifle. If you are intending to buy one, don't, and if you already have one, take it back to the dealer immediately. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES take it to the range.
The reason is that there was a structural flaw discovered in the stainless steel used for the barrels that got past quality control and that will result in the weapon exploding in your hands when fired, and possibly leading to severe injuries or even death. Normally all Sako rifles are test fired with two shots at the factory, but these passed the test, it takes more than that for the flaw to manifest, but it will after just a few firings. Sako has issued a recall for these already in October (when the flaw was first discovered), but the news probably has not reached all the possible customers, especially overseas (there were about 3000 flawed rifles sold before that). This thing was publicized here just yesterday, they had delayed it for PR reasons. Not just purely Sako's fault either, the Finnish gvernment bureau that is responsible for weapons control also missed this, so they also have some minor blame, and this is highly unusual.
