I have a CZ85 that likes a sub-1.07" OAL with the Missouri Bullet smallball 9mm 125gr LRN. Anything longer and it will not chamber. When I had my M&P, I could run the OAL all the way out to the full recommended length, per most manuals - something like 1.2"

I recently acquired a SR9c and when testing my reloads for fit in it's chamber, the longer 1.2" that I have left from my M&P will fit just fine. Hooray - I have almost 100 rounds at this length, so I can finally shoot them.

Now, my question is for future reloading, if I load all of my 125gr bullets at the shorter 1.07" length, would they function OK in my Ruger, or is that asking for a problem?

Thanks,

I think the only way to really know is to load up enough to fill a magazine and try them. Some guns are just downright cooperative and run anything you give them; others are picky little fellows and won't eat their spinach even if Dad tells them to.

As you shorten the chart oal, less powder is needed for the same pressure.

The CZ will generally have the shortest distance to the leade/rifling.

The one that takes the "shortest" oal should run fine in the other guns as long as they 'feed' reliably.

Alway remove the bbl and drop in a cartridge to see that it seats easily on the case mouth and will rotate/not hit the rifling.

In other words, YES you can with the proper charge.

I would run em at an O.A.L. that works in both guns, and work up your load at that O.A.L., unless you want to go through the trouble of keeping separate loads for each gun. I wouldn't.

Only way to find out if your Ruger likes them is to they them. If it doesn't you'll have to load a different O.A.L.'s, or pick another bullet.

Walkalong - that's what I was trying to ask. I'm going to try the left-over, longer bullets to see if they will work (I tried them in the barrel and they fit just like factory 115gr FMJ, so I think they will work). Then, I'll just load one OAL length, to fit the CZ, and if the Ruger will run those I'll leave it at that.

The best accuracy and clean bore with no leading in one of my 9mms is achieved with .368" cast bullet and .381" crimp. Sure, this wont even chamber in most 9mms.

I reload for my gun, not for specs, so I am OK with the non-standard reloads.

If your longer rounds shoot better in one of your guns, why not to enjoy this?
