Couldn't get it to play. An R4 is the South African-produced copy of the Galil SAR with a longer stock, so yes, it's probably an R4.

I saw the video on another thread on this forum somewhere. Yes it was a R4, had some optic and laser installed.

Looks like a rip-off of Masamune Shirow's Briareos character.

did someone flop the video or do R4s have cocking levers on both sides?

For Briareos, the tips of the 'ears' have sensors and a camera. When looking around corners or hard to reach places, he would just poke the tip of one around the corner to look around it instead of his head.

    Yep. That's an R4.

The way it fires from the hip and has super-human strength and dexterity, ya figure they would have given it something like a Bren gun in .338LM.

That as a R4 before they started editing on the thing. The cocking lever is missing. The scopemount is wrong. The real scope mount is fitted using the pins that hold the lockwork futher back on the reciever. The handgrip as also wrong. The one in the picture is the grip that is used on the R5 the shorter version of the R4.

As far as the laser goes... What was normally done for close work is to fit the sight used on the multiple grande launcher. It is not a laser sight but uses available light the project short a red line in you line of sight, almost like HUD, while you kept both eyes open. This was nice since you could aim while keeping both eyes open. Simple, look at what you plan to kill. Line op en little red line. Squeeze the trigger and you live another day in Africa.

The tricky part was to make friends with the local base gunsmith to do the conversion.

Why would a robot need a scope anyhow?

    No way.

I know it's just CGI, but no way.

No friggin' way do we start giving guns to robots. Am I the only one here who's seen Terminator?

Remember that little walking robot the Japanese made, Asimo, I think? Looked like a little spaceman.

Hi, little spaceman. Aren't you cute? You walk around, and wave at people. Aww...

See how cute it is when it's eight feet tall, covered with spikes, has thermal targeting, and is carrying a plasma rifle...

Can you imagine how much fun it will be when the security robot running M$ Windows '09 gets infected with a Trojan Horse from a pop up ad and goes on a rampage?
