About the best that we can get out of them is 1.5" @ 420 yards with factory ammo.

Which factory ammo? I just aquired a SSG 69 (.308) and it would be good to have as a base line for my reloads, which so far aren't coming close to the accuracy they have in my A-Bolt Eclipse.

I believe they are all .308 Win but I'd have to check.

I have nothing constructive to add.

I just wanted to say thanks to WA for ruining any chances of sleep I may have had for the forseeable future. //shivers//

Seems to me once you start getting up into these really pricey bolt guns would you not be better off having something built custom assuming you have the skill and ammo to really live up to the capabilities.

Me I barely have the skill and capabilities to live up to my air rifle......ahh who am I kidding I suck with that too. :uhoh:

Factory ammo to try in 308-

I suggest buying a box each of the 175gr Black Hills, 168gr BH, and Federal 168gr & 175gr to see which shoots the best in your rifle.

I'm sorry about the lack of info concerning the ammo used in the SSG. The groups were shot using Federal Match 168BTHP in the old red boxes. We were using a PII model prone with the scope set on 9X so as to be able to compare it to another rifle, a PI, sporting a 3X9 scope.

It's needless to say perfect conditions were with us that day.

Is the subject the SIG Sauer SSG 2000/3000 or the Steyr SSG 69 series (original through PIV)?

An SSG69 would most certainly be worth every penny. I like that rifle, even if it is bolt-action.:D

If anyone is intereseted, Cabela's in Kansas City has a Steyr SSG 69 that's been sitting on the racks for at least 5 months. It has no bipod rail, small bolt handle which makes it a PI I believe. I can't remember if it has iron sights or not. Might be able to talk them down to a good price (currently asking $1500). I believe that's with the QD rings but not positive.

Mine is has the bipod rail and no irons but still doesn't have the large bolt handle which keeps it from falling into any of the models listed in the manual but apears to be a PII with a standard bold handle. It was imported by GSI Inc but I can't find any info on it's age.
