Savage 110 vs Stevens 200

Just exactly how similar are these rifles? I have a Stevens 200 with the ugly gray synthetic stock. I'd like to replace it with a nicer and heavier wooden one to make it look prettier and help with the recoil a tad. Will a Savage 110 stock fit the Stevens 200? If it matters my rifle is a long action, chambered for 30-06.

The stevens 200 is the pre-accutrigger savage. As long as the the stock your looking at is for an older savage, and not the new bolt spacing it should work fine.

any 3 digit savage is long action, and all stevens are based on long actions, so it should be fine... the dif between the two is Savage now has better stocks(not by much on the synthetics_) and accutrigger. that is it.
You may wanna look at a bell and Carlson for a replacement stock , or a McMillan. Or a Choate stock.

Stevens offers both long and short actions. The newer Savages do require a different stock, but few if any are available as aftermarket options. Any stock made for an older Savage with a blind magazine will work.

That's not quite true. Savage made an intermediate 110 action that was a bit shorter than the 110 but longer than the 10. This matters only if you're getting a stock from an internet auction or from a guy locally. But, there's no secret to it. Simply measure the distance between the two action screws and make sure what ever you buy has that same measurement. As long as it does, it will fit.

Also, the statement about the Stevens being a pre-accutrigger model is halfway correct (and I mean that without flaming). It isn't semantics, but the Stevens uses the current Savage receiver profile but the older style trigger. This is important because the older 110 style scope mount bases will not fit the Stevens OR accutrigger Savages. If you find a deal on an older Redfield Jr. base for a 110, it won't work on the Stevens. Ditto for Weaver or Leupod bases.

The B&C Duramaxx is a great, economical replacement for the Stevens stock.

Duramaxx weighs more than wood. But if that's the case, you'll have to find a factory take off, or order one from Richard's or Boyd's.

As a temporary fix, you can mix epoxy and lead shot in a zip lock back, and insert it into the butt of the Stevens stock. That worked well on my daughter's. Next we're going to get some Fusion paint, and camo it.

It may not weigh more than a laminated wood stock, but you can check weights on the web sight.
