I own a savage 99 in 300 savage and I was wondering if anyone out there has one of these rifles and how they like it.

I am going to be using it this fall for my deer rifle and I have a 2-7 leopuld on it......any info on this rifle....

The best part of the savage 99 is using pointed projectiles in a lever action. My model 99 in 308 is an awesome rifle. The envy of many friends.

I have one in 300 Savage. It was my Granddads and my first centerfire rifle.

It is a wonderful little brush gun and still one of my favorites. It will always be one of my "go to" guns.

I own a model 99 in 300 savage

How can i know if my rifle is a 99 A,C,E,EG etc?

I don't own one right now but Model 99s have always given me the warm and fuzzies.
99A in .308 is a favorite of mine.

It'll usually tell you - look at the Model info stamped on the receiver ring. If it says nothing other than 'Model 99', then you start to look for other distinguishing characteristics. As far as I've been able to tell:

  • The "E" models doesn't have the round counter window in the left receiver wall
  • the "DL" model has (I think) a Monte Carlo stock
  • the "C" Model has a drop magazine
  • the "F" model has the thinner barrel

new production models

I wonder if Savage will consider making the 99 again, since the demise of Winchester's in-country factory will leave a void in the lever gun market.

As I recall, Savage quit making them because they were too expensive. I doubt that they would make them again unless it is a limited run and they knew they would all sell no matter how much they asked for them.

My rifle has the round counter window
