Does anyone know if Savage has fixed the problem with the magazine coming loose on there hard recoiling rifles such as 30-06? I do know that they do have a reputation as being inherently accurate. Would definitely appreciate any comments on this.

Must say, do like the dual clip on the Steyr Pro Hunter mags.
Have never lost a mag, from .22 or other.
But that just means it has yet to happen LOL.
Not that I bought the rifle just for that mag deal, but though it a good idea.

My 760 Rem has the orig .35 rem mag and they fetch over 100 bucks.
When I hunt it will wear the .243 mag that I got for free.
It cycles the .35 rem ammo fast or slow, zero probs.

If I lose it (snaps in just fine)........I'll just be mad. Not mad and crying.
Do NOT want to pay for a replacement .35 rem stamped 760 mag!
;)

My Axis was a .243, hunted it one season. No mag issues.
Was kinda concerned just looking at it.
Figured that trigger guard would wear. Easy enough to replace.

It's to replace my youngest son's 30-06 that he uses for deer and elk, he just decided to move about 300 miles from here, and is taking his rifle with him. That would be the first time that I was without a 30-06. Doubt if I'll be shooting it all that much, I had planned on placing it in a Boyd's stock just occasional use on elk when and if I'm drawn, I've got quite a collection of other rifles, but so far I've been luckiest using the 06 on elk. Fact is that is the only firearm in that caliber that I only had one of.

cdnn has ruger m77 hawkeys in 06 for $499.

Sorry Troy, but I don't have a clue what CDNN stands for, my LGS made me an offer I can't hardly refuse for a brand new one for right at $300.00 OTD, I can replace the stock for right at $!83.00 at Boyd's for a grand total of $583.00, I already have a couple of scopes, I can place on it. My only concern was that I've heard quite a few complaints on there magazines not being secure. BTW I'd be interested in that Ruger M77 Hawkeye at that price. I'm in no big hurry, as my son is still living local, but his job has him moving in August.

cdnn is like a online retailer, you can but from them and have the rifle shipped to your ffl. i am waiting for the guy that wants to buy my rem 700, i will most likely get a 280rem from them. here's the link, they have a synthetic stock but these ones are one of the best factory stocks out there.

I noticed that a Ruger 77 Hawkeye in the 300 is also $499.00 on sale including the laminated stock, that would be right up my alley if they also had the 30-06 as that looks like the same stock I was thinking about from Boyd's, the only difference I see is in the length of the barrel 20"vs22" on the Savage and the rifling is Ruger's. I do thank ya for the post, and I've placed that in my favorites section.

i had a early edge, before they got sued and had to change the name. it was a 270 picked it up for 160 at the gun show. shot 130 core-lokts good but shot the 150 in to 1/2 moa, i shot a buck at 540 yards with that savage. i am pretty gentle with guns and the mag broke the first day out, savage would not replace them and no one want's to pay for a $45 mag that has a 100% chance of breaking. that rifle was the last straw for savage, there guns have gotten worse over the last 10 years, i will not buy any new savages.

Leaves me more money for old Savages......

I've only got just the one, it was made in 1931 even has the rounds counter on the left side of the receiver, and that little stake that sits up when there is round in the chamber on top of the receiver, it has the brass colored butt plate, and some really nice walnut furniture. BTW it has that 300 Savage chambering.

The stock that come on Rugers are much cleaner and have a better feel than the sporters Ive gotten recently from boyds.

As to the mags, id highly suggest you carry a spare, or at least some tape. Ive seen a couple that have had the tabs snap off.
Other wise the Axis is a pretty decent rifle for the cost. Im going to build a .25-06 for a friend using an Axis and a chassis i think.

I also had a hankering for a pre-war 99, but in an obtainable chambering. Finally got lucky with my .30-30 Takedown, with cartridge counter and straight stock. Its restoration is about 80% complete (was missing a few small parts, and needed refinished).
my dads wife's uncle that lives up close to the canadian border has the biggest 99 collection i ever seen, last i seen he was up to over 750 99s. i would like to ask if i could buy one when i get the spare cash.
