Savage model 112 any good?

I recently ran up on an older Savage 112 7mm Rem Mag. It's pre-accutrigger, stainless with a heavy flutted bull barrel and composite stock. Appears to be in excellent shape. Picked it up from an older deer hunter that broke his shoulder and could no longer hunt with it. I've looked all over the internet and can't seen to find anything about the older 112. Are they known to be good guns? How long would the barrels typically last? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Individual guns may vary, but in my experience Savages in general are not good guns, they're great guns.

Your gun is a Savage 112 FVSS,they came in 7mm Mag starting in 1995 and were discontinued in 2002.
And Yes,they are damn good guns.Most of the heavy barreled Savage's shoot sub moa with good ammo.

I had one just like it in 30.06. I restocked mine but never shot it. I traded it to Thomas Crocker from this board. He traded it without shooting it as well. I often wonder who wound up with it and how well it shoots. I believe they deserve their good reputation.

What is the typical barrel life of a stainless 7 Rem Mag? i wouldn't think deer hunters were too bad about shooting barrels out?

I don't know about the model 12 but the model 10 is one of the best guns I've shot. I don't think it's possible to go wrong with a Savage.

The great thing about Savages is you can change the barrel yourself in your garage with the correct barrel wrench, so even if it is shot out or if you just want a new caliber it's easy to do. Although if it was just a deer gun I'm guessing the barrel is probably still like new.

I've had a savage like that for 15 years, great rifle. Mine is a standard barrel but shoots .75 MOA@100

I would doubt that your great grand kids 75 years from now will have shot the barrel out on a 7mm Rem Mag.

I have the 110 I bought 28 yrs ago. Best damn rifle I ever bought. You can't go wrong with Savage for price value and out of the box accuracy.
