Savage model 42 and a scope

I bought 2 Savage model 42, 22lr/410 over/under combo one for each kid to use, brand new both out the door for $475. package deal. The kids and I do not like a sites on them, from other post I found where to get Picatinny rail for them. I however have no experience with red dot scopes or reflex sites. Any recommendations on a what is better red dot scope or reflex site and a good option for under $50.

guns will be used for targets, paper and flying. as well as small game hunting, upland bird and deer, slugs or buck shot.

Do some shopping around for a Bushnell TRS-25. Most places have them for ~$100 but I bought mine a few years ago from Amazon for around $60 including shipping. I have had it on 12ga and 10/22s with no recoil problems.

Good suggestion Mine has been durable on the 9mm carbine for several years.
