Saving the Combat Commander (update)

They usually clean up pretty nice once you get the junk off off them and out of them.

A short steel trigger with the arched MSH will give a proper feel too. A lot of guns of that era had plastic triggers and plastic MSH's. Never understool Colts thinking there.

Lets see how it groups next week… Heck! maybe tomorrow

Very nice Mark² !

I have a 70 series Colt that is a work in progress.

How I picked it up at the local pawn shop

I got rid of the squared trigger guard and extended slide stop. The grips were a gift from a friend but I'm not sure I will keep them. Sights and thumb safety are next.

I’m torn with the Pacmyer wrap around grip, they feel so good!

Cobra Grip is Killer! and nice Blue on that finish

Nicely done, Mark! Much better! One of my first 1911s was a Combat Commander, though I only had it for about six months. I traded it for a Kimber Classic when they first came out because it was all the rage. Stupid man. I sold the Kimber after it became clear that the black finish was no more durable than shoe polish, and the ear of the grip safety broke off. Clearly I should have kept the Commander!

Shoot that gun and be happy!

I stand corrected. I apologize.
Ohhhh, I understand completely. It is difficult to see those before and after pictures and think that could be the same gun, but a good cleaning and lighting makes a world of difference that's startling. If not for the double scratch and forking of the one scratch I'd have been more than skeptical too.

oh yeah! but still looking for a worn out wood or fake ivory grips

Those grips you have on it now don't look bad. Better than the Pachmayrs.

I like the full checkered panels with sharp checkering, and a little swell in the palm is a plus too, but you don't see that often. Add a strip of skateboard tape to the front strap and you have a shooter that wont squirm around in your hand as you shoot. :)

A lot of the fancy grips look nice in pics, but more often than not, suck to shoot with.

Glad you got rid of those horrid wrap around Pachs and light/laser. The long trigger is nice. If it were mine I would go with a flat MSH and be done for a great carry gun.

it’s a T-Sauce black Plastic grip! probably coat them $1 to make

I’m looking for a better grip, something SIMPLE

I got some trigger spare parts I’m try. I do plan on carrying it, came with 4 mags.
