South Carolina has signed reciprocity agreements with KY and FL. Ky already honors all other states permits and FL will honor anyone who honors theirs. Florida has not updated their site yet announcing the agreement but I am sure that will come shortly. KY listed SC as a state they have signed with about a week ago.

Handgunlaw.us will be updated in the next 24 hours to reflect this change in reciprocity.

Thanks Gary. I talked with SLED yesterday and was informed of this. Hopefully they will be adding more in the near future.

    Outstanding!

I, for one, will be glad to see that blemish removed from the Florida reciprocity map.

    Thanks for keeping us updated.

Will SC honor Florida non-resident permits, or just those issued to Floridians?

Once again the residents of Illinois and Wisconsin get the shaft, no way of getting a resident permit and after looking at Handgunlaw very, very difficult to get a non-resident from SC. Yes, we in Illinois are working on CCW as are people in Wisconsin and no one is going to give up. Jim.

Scott, checking Handgunlaw just now it does appear that Georgia and also Alabama and Mississippi are all still out of the SC loop.
If true,I hope they are quickly added.
    Not so solid after all,perhaps.

I looked at buying land there for that reason. There are some small undeveloped plots selling for 2-5k. With the talk that VA might get SC reciprocity if they can get everything ironed out, I haven't done it. Handgun in the glovebox is legal though.

Yes. GA does not require a background check and/or any instruction, so unless they add that to their permit requirements, I don't expect they will be added soon. However, a NH non-resident permit is recognized in both GA & AL.

So we Georgian's still can't carry in SC - even with a FL non-res permit. Any chance of changing the wording with future legislation to get rid of the non-res exemption?

It absolutely drives me crazy that I can't carry there (Parents retired in SC) even with a Georgia and Florida non-res permit. :cuss:

    Yea, Georgia next ...

Just got my SC CWP, good to know it's honored in FL. But GA is right next door. Personally, I don't think a background check is too much to go through to get a CWP.

I got excited for a second there - I thought the post title was, "SC Signs with FL and NY."

    No such luck. :(

While it is true that GA does not require "training" for issuance of a Georgia Firearms License, the assertion that a background check is not required for receipt of a GFL is false. Probate court judges require the local police department to run an applicants prints through the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, Federal Bureau of Investigation, and NCIC database for disqualifying offenses before a license may be issued.

I can assure you that we Georgians will fight to the last breath to prevent the inclusion of any provision in the license process that would add economic burden to the pursuit of a carry license. We have over 300,000 active licensees who manage to get along just fine without the state mandating that they undertake so-called training. While many of us desire reciprocity with SC, we wouldn't want it at the expense of giving credibility to an idea of the gun-grabbers that is intended to discourage people from exercising their rights.

Right-on for the people of KY and FL though.

The bill that made possible reciprocity with KY and FL, and hopefully others, started life as a straight recognition bill. As passed out of our House of Representatives, it read
You folks in Lexington County get rid of Jakey Knotts and we'll get that simple recognition language passed.

I live in and have my concealed weapon permit from Florida. I am in SC regularly and have always taken my pistol off and put it in the console at the GA/SC border. So this is good news! But I just briefly reviewed SC's gun laws. There are quite a few differences. It is your responsibility to know and obseve them.

Some of the major ones I noticed:

Castle Doctrine-Fla. presumption of violent felonious intent and reasonable fear of death or great bodily injury. SC no presumptions. It appears that you must still prove that you had a reasonable fear of imminent death or great bodily injury.

Informing LEOs of weapons. Fla. no duty. SC duty

Private establishments and residents can prohibit you from carrying on their premises or homes in SC. Not in Fla.

You must get express permission to carry in church or a private residence in SC. Not in Fla.

These were just a few that I noticed. I'll keep reading. Thanks for the link. Is there a site that summarizes this information?
