I priced one today online, it was available for $2350 shipped insured to my FFL. I passed for reasons other than price but they really aren't $3500 these days.

Your point is well taken though, they are still a premium compared to an AR15.

Whereas I find the SCAR 17 to be a hands-down winner for me in the AR10 class, I can't say the same about the 16 in the AR15 class.
