Click on the link about there stand on war and terrorism. Among other things they're for global disarmament, the UN as the world's police force and the AWB.
My wife and I are looking for a new church and was thinking about this one until we read this stuff. Yesterday we we watched people jump up and down and lay on the floor during songs at some non-denominational church. Have churches gone crazy now too??

Religion is the opiate of the... *sigh* nevermind. Just know this: like political parties, different religious denominations have set standards in their beliefs. Also know that 99% of the population doesn't fit exactly into the mold(s) these organizations set.

Example: I am a United Methodist. I believe that private ownership of any kind of weapon (from full-auto firearms to dull kitchen knives) should not only be allowed, but encouraged. I am also a libertarian. I do not completely agree with the libertarian party's stand on abortion.

Religious following and political party association are not too far off from each other, no matter who you are. For the most part, anyway.

Yep the UMC has jumped the shark. I think there has already been one break in that church. I knew something was wrong when I saw UMC minisiter on C-Span introduce the Predsdent of Planned Parenthood and he gave rave review of PP and her book she was hawking. Check out a non demonational bible church. Most are not overly emotional and just preach the book. Might want to also check out smaller churches. You will also find the same left wing politics in Presbyterian Chruch USA, Epicopalian Church USA, United Chruches of Christ, Unitarian, Congregational Churches all the ole so called "mainline" Churches. The PCUSA actually had their high ranking officials meeting with Hamaz last year. Yea who ever said the left wing chruches believe in separation of Church and State was foremost a LIAR. :neener:

I regularly attend a UMC and the services are ritualistic and bland. I'm aware most of the members are pacifist leftists, which is not surprising since they all seem to be retired teachers. It's an environment of academic blissninnyism which serves to soften me a little around the edges.

I'm really more suited to the Assembly of God..........

Well let's not confuse religion, with spirituality, with politics, with people's agenda's. All are different.

Actually it's pretty common, a lot of religious groups confuse wrongful violent acts and weapons as though they were somehow tied in. It's just the same stuff from misguided people, wrapped in the cloth of their religious interpretation. This has been a much debated area within Christians for a long time.

Someone can correct me if I am wrong, but the Apostles with Jesus carried swords and knives. He corrected a wrongful act, but there is no reference about NOT having weapons to protect yourself and loved ones.

I saw a History Channel show about UFOs in the Bible and they a UMC minister on that supported it. They said the vehicles in Ezekil were spaceships. We were going to an Episcopal church that had a lot of well to dos in it and there was a definite cast system and clique. The final straw came when I got a phone call one night from the money guy asking how much I was going to be pledging for the year and he didn't even know who I was. I heard his wife yelling at him in the background "you know the guy with the wife in the chior" This is afterwe had been going there for over a year. Sometimes I think we should just study at home with Arnold Murray on TV.

Noooo! Not televangelists! :uhoh: Heck, just helping out at a local homeless shelter every week and reading the Book is better than that!

Come to think of it, it's better than most seem to do nowadays... :scrutiny:

No Dion he's nothing like you think TV ministers are. Believe me I feel the same way about them. (Benny Hinn??) LOL

Religion is one of the hot-button topics that routinely gets out of hand on THR and TFL. As such, we have a longstanding policy of not discussing religion on the board. And, in light of this, I'm closing down this thread.

However, it should be noted that the discussion thus far was very high-road. The thread is not being closed in reference to anything anyone has posted.

Also, the original poster no doubt wanted to make the UMC's stance on such issues known. That has been accomplished.

Thank you,
Coronach
