Am I the only one that has noticed the timing of these attacks?

Seems to me that brady has alot more ammunition now.

Albeit having nothing to do with gun control. They will make it sound like it does.
 
I seriously doubt anything was engineered by the left along the lines you are suggesting.
Unless there are secret DemNinjas that we don't know about.

But on the other hand I would say the gas prices have been engineered for a feelgood factor pre-election.
The stadium/dirty bomb terror scares are also a pre-election ploy.
As are the letters sent out in California to naturalized citizens informing them that it is illegal to vote.
The Foley scandal was learned of a while ago but saved for maximum effect.

So yes, both sides are playing dirty, but I don't believe the Dems are shooting children as you insinuate.
 
What is a factor is what the leftist press considers newsworthy and what they think people should have in their ain't-it-awful consciousness. The press controls the agenda and to a great extent what the masses think. There are all sorts of crime incidents that get no attention beyond a local paper or media station or some specialty web site.
 
Timing is everything

I see the Brady group as shamelessly exploiting someone else's tragedy. They do the same thing here in Chicago.

The Englewood neighborhood of Chicago has gang and drug related shootings of innocents, young children in their homes or just on the street, almost on a weekly basis,

Most of the year they get a line or two in the Chicago Tribune buried in the Metro section folowed by the line, "The police are currently interviewing the neighbors to identfy suspects."

When primary or election season rolls around, every shooting gets a press conefrence with the Governor, the Mayor and the chief of police. The M-16s and AK-47s from the police lockers are trotted out for a table display and the "horrors of guns flooding our streets" are preached about by the local ministers, Father Michael "flaky" Pfleger and the mayor.

Grieving parents and grandparents are brought up to the microphone to talk about the death of their child. The need for an "Illinois Assault Weapons Ban" drum is beaten loud and long. Street marches to "take back our streets" are held with Jesse Jackson, Sr. and Jr. at the front of the line with a new rhyming chant for the marchers, many of whom are already on the County or city payroll and have been bused in for the march.

The week after the election, the shootings go back to page 12, the "community" representatives are out hustling votes or county jobs for their campaign workers and Jesse is shaking down another corporation somewhere in America.
 
Joe Demko, actually, I would prefer that school shootings were largely ignored by the media, just as I wish terrorist bombings were. Report it as a news even, then move on. With the breathless reporting, the endless interviews, the personal stories, the special graphics, the ominous music, the playing of the video over and over again, it makes it into a very glamorous thing. For a messed up kid, wanting to go out in a blaze of glory, or a terrorist wanting the most bang for the buck, the news media creates a ready medium.

And if the Republicans can manipulate gas prices so easily as to get them to come down just before an election, why did they let them get so high in the first place? High gas prices clearly damaged the President's approval rating. It just doesn't make any sense.
 
I am in full agreement with TX1911 fan. The media turns these shootings into a movie complete with dramatic music. It almost looks like they glorify it. Nothing gets them more excited, except maybe a new war.

The gas prices started falling after they spiked due to the hezbollah/Isreal conflict. When the conflict ended and the hurricane season was a dud there was nothing except Iran which has been pretty well forgotten with North Korea testing nukes. It's all about futures and speculation. No immediate threat to the supply and the prices go down.

And boy am I getting sick of everyday hearing all the talking heads say, "Foley the scandle that just won't go away". Gee I wonder why it won't go away? Oh yea that's it, you won't let it go away cause it serves your agenda.
 
News is reported based on what interests people. Like it or not, school shootings are going to be heavily reported precisely because they are unusual and tragic. Tragedy fascinates people. It might fit better with your personal agenda for the news to concentrate on something else; but the news organizations have their own agenda_making money, NOT taking your guns_and so they will continue to report what garners ratings.
 
Joe, that's a different issue, and I agree with you. But, your question was "would you prefer they are not reported." My answer is yes. Will it come to pass? Not in a thousand years.
 
I agree with you that, realistically, it isn't just reported...it's wallowed in. People just have a ghoulish streak, I guess. Look at the coverage the sinking of the Titanic got at the time and how it still fascinates people today. Everybody knows the names "Jack the Ripper" and Charlie Manson. Until people, as a group, lose the urge to stop and gawk at death, the Media will continue to pander to it.:(
 
Hard to imagine people never wanting to see what's going to happen to all of us eventually.

Timing for elections? Nah. Its just perception. Better believe that the hardcore lefties are looking at Iraq and waiting for a decline in violence so they can say how conveniently timed it was for the election.

Everyone decides that they're going to pay attention to something and not to something else, its just how people's brains work. Often enough, because of the things people pay attention to, its easy for those people to see some kind of implied connection between two unrelated events.
 
The issue of extreme over reporting of things like school shootings is two fold.
One is the nature of humans. If it bleeds it leads is the journalists mantra for a reason. People like sensation. Its much more entertaining and interesting to read about dramatic crimes than mundane daily news. Thats why the Jon Benet Ramsey case still commanded headlines 10 years later.

The second factor is the proliferation of news outlets. 50 years ago the number of electronic media outlets was a fraction of what it is today. Newsprint has never been a really effective medium for sensationlizing crime and misfortune.

Radio is not much better. TV however is ideal for this and with explosion of TV stations and cable news outlets all vying to land an audience and pump up the ratings the need for news stories to titillate the audience has become insatiable.

50 years ago stories like Columbine, the DC snipers and many others would have gotten perhaps a single column in the local newspaper, a mention on the radio and perhaps a 30-60 second story on the network new in the evening. Unless the story was nearby geographically or had other interest many local news outlets may not have even mentioned some stories. Today with the proliferation of talking heads and the need to fill countless hours of air time in the search for ratings, every story with even the slightest salacious
interest gets hashed out, overanalyzed, editorialized and dissected for days.

We don't have an increase in bad news in our country, what we have seen is
a dramatic increase in the number of people who make money from bad news.
And too many of these people believe that we are too stupid to understand whats going on in the world unless they filter it, doctor it up and present it to us in a way that they feel we need to see it.
