Title darn near says it all. Have 100-200 yard shots at the shooting range at work - will be the most frequent. Have a place to shoot 45 minutes away to shoot out to 350 yards. That will be a maybe 4-6 trips this summer.

Looking at the Bushnell Elite Scopes on closeout at Midway USA. Which one should I pick?

Bushnell Elite 3200 Rifle Scope 4-12x40mm Adjustable Objective DOA 600 Reticle Matte $280

Bushnell Elite 3200 Rifle Scope 5-15x 40mm Adjustable Objective Multi-X Reticle Matte $273

Bushnell Elite 3200 Rifle Scope 5-15x 50mm Adjustable Objective Multi-X Reticle Matte $252 (<- weird the 50mm lens has a larger objective and brings in more light - with the same 5-15x as the middle one but this is cheaper? what am I missing?)

Link me to a proper base / rings if you recommend one. I'm hearing $60-100 here or so...?

Thanks

I'd get the 4-12 with the DOA ranging reticle, likely to be handy for anything past 200 yards. And 12x is plenty of magnification.

The 50mm probably costs less due to lower demand - such a big bell is hard to mount at a reasonable height on many rifles.

What is your exact rifle? Without knowing that, some shoot in the dark ring suggestions:

DPMS with standard (base) high-rise flattop: Warne rings in medium or high.

Any other flattop: Burris AR-PEPR, on sale for $70 at Midway right now.

Hey thanks for chiming in Z-Man.

Armalite 10A4BSF is the rifle. Flattop AR-10 .308 20" SS Barrel. Standard handguards ie no quad rail and no iron sights.

That DOA reticle looks confusing. : ) You think a new guy could figure that out in some time? I got recommendations elsewhere to get somthing with a standard crosshair not even mil dots and to learn dialing it in on the scope rather than hold overs...

This will be my first scoped rifle of any kind.

The DOA is something you will figure out, and once you do, IMO you will like it more than a standard multi-x. In all honesty, you could still use it as a multi-x until you are comfortable with how the DOA reticle corresponds to the trajectory of your bullet.

Nice rifle. You will need a very high mount. The AR-PEPR mount is probably the best value in an appropriate mount. You could also use super-high rings designated for an AR flattop; Warne makes a set of AR quick-detach rings for about $50. Both are good options, pick the one you like better.

People take different approaches to long range elevation compensation, but I am not a fan of dialing in turrets simply because it's slow, totally impractical for many hunting situations, and you need to remember to return the turrets back to zero or else all subsequent shots will be off. I think you would figure out the DOA reticle in 10 minutes of range time and then be really happy with it. My 2 cents.

Midway is offering a special for them BSA tactical riflescope. 4 ~ 14 x 44mm, with a 30mm tube. This scope has a first focal plane reticle and is calibrated in mils. Lifetime warranty. On sale for $249.00, down from $399.00
Sounds like a perfect fit for your .308.

I just mounted one on my DPMS LR308B, haven't taken it to the range yet but it looks promising.

I have a DPMS LR308 and have used a couple different scope set ups. THis is what I ended up with

As for the optics, I am a huge fan of the Vortex Viper series. Currently I have a 2-7x on the LR308, super simple to reset zero, just pull up on turret and rotate to desired position, then set back down. You may be able to find a closeout deal somewhere, they dropped a couple of models due to low sales for the particular magnification and re-did their line a little. Most can be had for less than $400.

Maybe check out the simmons whitetail 6.5-20x50 at midway usa. $150 off sale and people like 'em. $250 scope selling for $105 I believe until the end of January. Mil-dot and standard crosshairs available

I have that scope - got it with a used gun I bought. It's great for the money. You do not get a real quality scope of that magnification for $130 or whatever the sale price is every 3 months. The upper magnification is really useful only for paper punching and maybe varmints. It's a decent scope, but I think lower magnification will serve the OP and most other people better.

If this is a strictly range gun and no hunting and your budget is around 300 I would get a 10x or 16x super sniper from SWFA. I have a number of high end scopes and while the glass on the super sniper may not be equal to a NightForce well the price is far from equal. The dials are precise and they will hold zero and return to zero. A super sniper and a good set of high or extra high badger, or leupold or even budget in mind TPS rings and your off to the range. Just my 2 cents of coarse but just read the reviews of super sniper. Best of luck
