scope mount on ported revolver

    Hey! Leupold VX3 handgun scope mounted on S&W 629 deer hunter. Barrel has porting slits on either side of front sight. Front edge of scope sits 1 inch back from start of porting. Concerned gases escaping from ports could damage scope/lense, maybe over time. What do you think? Thanks, AJ

    It would probably not damage the scope, but count on having the vented gasses deposit carbon and other "soot" on your objective lense, necessitating cleaning after only a couple cylinders worth of ammo.
