I have been sighting in scopes for years and have run into a problem I cannot figure out. I purchased a marlin 45/70 and put a Redfield 2x7x33mm scope on it. I have had to crank the scope as far up as it will go and it will still shoot 2 inches low. I would like to be able to put the sights dead on at 100 yards. Any ideas? Thanks.

You might want to consider the Burris Signature rings with the polymer inserts. With the offset insert kit, you will be able to align the scope to the barrel. And the inserts protect the scope from ring scratches.

Rings are medium redfield rings for a one inch scope. the base is a standard weaver. Switched the rings out to weavers and will see if that does anything.

I'm sorry, but being old school, a scope on a lever action is just plain wrong.

No, you are just plain wrong. Keep ridiculous ideas to yourself & we won't have any problems.

Sounds like you need a taller rear or shorter front.

Other way around. Needs shorter rear or taller front. How many moa of adjustment does your scope have? Are both bases on the frame, or is one down on the barrel?

Very strange. It should work assuming the bases are a correct set and the rings are the same height. Have you tried a different scope?

If all else fails revers the direction of the scope base and rings front to rear and see if the gun now shoots at least 2" high (after rezeroing)

Try the scope backwards and upside-down.

Seriously, have you tried shooting this gun with open sights?
Are you able to shoot paper with it with the open sights, or is it way too low?

If it is way too low, perhaps someone drove over the barrel or something, is the barrel perfectly straight, or does it tilt downwardly a bit?

If you have any old 35mm film cut a couple of strips and place it in the ring. The thickness of the fill is like.005 shou shot give you an additional 5 moa per slice.
