my father in laws scope is shot. just falling to pieces. its an old simmons. i want to gift him a new one. my budget is $200

what would you guys recommend for a savage 110 chambered in 270? and what scope rings? height and brand

where he hunts a long shot is 300 yards and i doubt he would take a shot that far unless it was at a hog.

Check out Vortex Crossfire II. I put one on a 350 Legend and it is fine. They have a great warranty and the glass is pretty good. It’s a budget scope, but I feel it is better than others in its class.

I 2nd the Crossfire II or the Burris E1 or FF2.
Since you said its for your dad , I'd probably go with the Crossfie as the power ring on the Burris is pretty stiff.

Another thing. The ring spacing on Savage long action rifles is quite far apart. Most modern scopes are too short to fit that rifle without some offset rings or by using a rail. Take that into consideration. The Burris MIGHT work but it will be close

Mediums should be plenty if direct mount, if rail mounted you should be able to get by with low rings . And yes, that is exactly what I have on my wife's T/C 6.5cm.

I’m another vote for the vortex crossfire. I put one on my 308 for now(with te intention of moving it to another rifle). I’m quite impressed with it, and for the $$ it’s a good deer woods scope.

    A used Leupold, from ebay.

I don't buy glass that doesn't have a lifetime warranty, or that's painful to look through, so Leupold is where I'd land for $200. If you want a new scope, I'm afraid your budget's too low.

Which one did you choose? I too had good luck with the Cross Fire. I have expensive scopes and some not so much. I know all the arguments, you get what you pay for and all that. I agree with that. Sometimes you can only afford what you can afford.

Can't go wrong there. I got one of the Sig scopes over the summer and liked it.

I am the same way when it comes to scopes. I agree that you get what you pay for. That said, there are some scopes that are much much better value than others, and there are some that you pay some for name value.
For a beginner rifle, or for one that is set up to more or less be a loaner rifle, I have a hard time putting 1K worth of glass on it when I know that I am not going to be the one taking care of it. most of the people that I would loan a rifle to would take as good care of it as I would, but…

I suspect that Simmons might have been from the package deal that Savage had was the 110 back when?
