have a question for all you folk.

I have two old weaver scopes, one a fixed 4x and a variable. all are "El Paso"
scopes.

what do you folk think...are they worth repairing?

if so...who has had to repair scopes and who do you suggest?

thanks!
D

I just sent a Weaver scope in for repair - not an El Paso model. I got 22 years of good service out of that scope, so I am not unhappy about that. It's going to cost me $150 to get it back. I think I will pass on that offer, and just buy another scope.

In 2016 $200 will buy you a far better scope than was available at any price 30-40 years ago. If it were something that belonged to grandpa and I wanted it in working condition then the cost of repair might be a consideration. If you're looking for something to use, no.

and thats the rub jmr40.

I want to try to keep it "period" with the rifle. its an old winchester model 43 22 hornet of a 1954 vintage.

I figure that the fixed 4x would just look "right" on top of that rifle. and since i'd be getting that one fixed I had the other scope there needing some service.

but as I look on ebay...yeah...I understand what everyone is saying. :)

as usual rcmodel nailed it. I was interested in getting a couple of old Weavers i have fixed and after I found out it cost $150 I replaced them with used ones off ebay for $35 each...

Update on my Weaver scope. The $150 is their offer for a replacement scope. They cannot repair the scope I sent in. I don't know about an El Paso made scope, but repairing it may not even be an option.
