Subject pretty much says it.

I was laughing at this thread...

...when I thought, "Hey. You know... it's be cool to snap a pic of a deer or whatever if you suddenly, for whatever reason, decide not to take the shot." Maybe a shutter switch that mounts on the front of the trigger guard. Takes an SD card. High mega-pixel.

Anyone hear of something along these lines? I wonder what the interest level in such an item is. Certainly neat, but useful? Hmmm...

I believe they are called camera scopes. They're essentially rifle scopes with a built-in camera. Some are infrared or thermal or nightvision.

Heheh... I think that your turn the recording on at the scope, I doubt that it would have anything to do with trigger function.
However, it is true that this design has the inherent flaw of the fact that you wouldn't want to point the camera at something you don't want to kill.

I think just a plain old 'shoulder pod' for the camera works well enough. The one by Cullman gives me 2, or 3 f/stops with my DSLR. I think trying to tie the idea into a 30mm rifle scope, aside from the added size and weight for the electronics will give you pretty weak performance, especially under low light conditions.

I would be really skeptical of such a contraption.
