What are you going to use it for?

A suitable pistol scope for shooting small groups off a bench-rest would probably be a poor choice for deer hunting.

I'd go with a fixed, low power handgun scope for hunting.

A high power variable for bench-rest target shooting.

Leupold makes both, and are considered among the best handgun scopes made..

Well then, you probably want a variable.

Low power for a wide field of view and no shakes when hunting deer.

More power when you can take your time and a good rest when shooting ground hogs.

No experiance with Nikon pistol scopes at all.

However 8X would require a firm sandbaged benchrest to hold it still on a handgun.

Might be O.K. on a 15" T/C though, as thats more a "rifle without a stock" then a handgun.
