Scoping a revolver ??

I am going into some new territory here. I kust ordered a Taurus Tracke in 17 HMR from CDNN. It was a good price, and I figured I could take up pistol varminting with it. All the reviews say it is a very good gun out to about 100yds. Will I try shots like that? Not for a while, but hopefully soon. I will also carry it when out doing the 'yote thing very soon.

So, I have never scoped a pistol. Any advice is much appreciated. I was looking at the Bushnell 2-6x32 to put on it. I like the idea of the 2 power for most things, but those gophers get a little small at anything over 75 yds, so I like the varibility of the scope also.

So, how do set up a scope on a pistol. The tracker has a 6" barrel and the scope is 9"long. It has a relief of 18", so that should work. I was thinking of the Weigand mount and medium rings.

All I need is someone who has scoped a revolver before to say, "yea, that should work.", and then I can get the stuff on order.

Not sure if you are looking for general help or help with the exact gun/parts you picked, but I've got a similar type rail on my python (from b-square) that locks into the vent ribs like in the picture you show. I've only got a 2x scope on mine, but it works.

My advice is to stick with straight 2X extended eye relief scopes only. I have a pair of S&W M629's, .44 Mag, 6.5 inch barrels with Leupold 2X EER scopes that are used as short hunting rifles. Five shot groups from rest at 75 yards typically are 3 inches or less. Have taken 2 deer and 2 wild hogs. Tried 4X scope but was unsatisfactory because it magnified wobble too much, had a VERY narrow field of view, and was difficult to line up and see thru. Six power would be even worse. YMMV

You definitely need a rest to use the 6x. I got rid of a 4x because of the limited field of view. 2x is about perfect for a handgun IMO.
I would like to know how you do with the .17 against a 'yote. All the talk about the caliber sounds good, but it just doesn't seem like enough bullet to handle anything larger than a rabbit (which doesn't take much to stop it).

I am not sure how it will work against a 'yote either. Shot placement is much more important. There are a few guys that use the 17 HMR on 'yotes at another board I go to. The feeling is no more than 75-100 yds, and hope you don't hit a shoulder bone. Other than that, they seem to happy with the round.

I am going to use it mainly for PD's, gophers, and any feral cats I call in while rifle hunting for 'yotes. If I can get a 'yote in close enough, I will try a shot with it.

Sounds like a good choice. Best of luck with your 2X scoped pistol. The real benefit of a scope on a pistol is to put the target and the crosshairs into the SAME FOCAL PLANE so both are sharp at the same time. Too much magnification just causes problems on pistols. You may be amazed (as I was) at just how accurate a pistol with 2X scope can be out to 100 yds. I literally think of my scoped S&W M629's as "short rifles". Have made several kills on running game, including both close range (20 yds) and extended range (92 yds).

I have several. They work just fine. I'd suggest not using Lock Tight on the screws until after your first range session: it's easy to put everything together in ways that look right, but aren't quite.
 
Myself I would skip the Bushnell and get a Leupold 2X M8 like the one I have or a Burris. Both have a lifetime warranty and will treat you right if there is problems down the road.

Jack Weigand is a master at what he does and I have no doubt you will be very happy with one of his mounts. I have his Integrmount on my Redhawk and I'm very happy with it although I don't think he is still making it. Good point from Standing Wolf about getting everything set in before locking the hardware. Also for lock tite to work properly the hardware should be cleaned with Acrysol, Acetone or some similar solvent.

I ended up with the pistol (Taurus Tacker in 17HMR), a Weigand mount, and a Nikon 2x scope. I have several boxes of tiny Winchester V-Max.

The only fly in the ointment is I am working 7 straight 12 hour nights starting tomorrow. All of the stuff will be here and I will be sleeping or working. :(

I like red dots on pistols. I have tried scopes with magnification and the field of view is too small for my tastes. I just never liked them.
