I don't want a side rail and I don't want to mount a red dot too far forward.

I used this version for awhile, and it worked great, but I ended up taking it off and went back to iron sights.

Could you get a decent cheek weld with it?It looks sorta high that's why I was considering the drop down version.

Midwest Industries makes a pretty slick system, I don't know that you can get much lower:

Mounts for the Burris FastFire II and III, Leupold DeltaPoint, Trijicon RMR, Aimpoint T1 and others.
