I am looking for a scout scope to mount forward and above my Williams adjustable peep sight on an FN 30.06. Are there any scopes that are made to ride this high, or should I just remove the peep sight?
Are you talking about the see through type of scope mounts? If so, then my experience is that they mount the scope way too high. Better to use QD rings for the scolpe so that you can quickly remove it should the need arise requiring the use of the iron sights.
Scout scopes are mounted on a rail over the barrel well in front of the receiver. They use QD mounts to remove the scope to use the peep. Personally I'd trash the irons and just buy a quality scope and forget about ever needing the irons.
Post apocalyptic reliability is part of what makes a scout. Irons are a part of that. You just need something that will fold out of the way of the scope.
