SD training and the four rules?

I went to a sd training class the other day, I will refrain from naming to not sling mud, just curious to say the least. In this class the trainer consistantly pointed the barrel at us in the class, sometimes not intentionaly, but other times while showing a laser sight, put it on several peoples heads/chest, etc. It was a revolver with those colored things in the bullet chambers to show it wasnt loaded, but still, no adhearance to the rule. Just wondering if this is normal when you get into sd style training or what. the guy was a retired detective, very experienced, confirmed shootouts, the whole nine. Any thoughts
 
Safety Rule

I teach sd and cc, I don't point firearms of anykind at my students. I have an extensive LE background, and someone pointing a firearm in my direction definately triggers a response in me.
As a student, I would'nt like it, and would make my disatisfaction known.
If you don't intend to kill it don't point your weapon at it.
The safety rules are in place for a reason.
Just my .02:confused:
 
I've trained in classes on both coasts and in between. I have never encountered a trainer that has pointed a real gun at any member of the class or other instructors unless it was during simmunitions training. The only other times a "gun" was pointed, it was a solid blue plastic gun.
 
I am a firearms/CCW instructor.

Basically, your instructor was an idiot.

There are good reasons to point guns at people during class. And that is why they make RUBBER DUMMY guns. I use Asp Red guns or Rings Blue guns.
 
A polite, "please don't point that at me" would be a first warning - if it happened again, I'd walk out the door and contact his boss to discuss a refund of any money paid.
 
Sounds like he may have suffered some brain damage in one of those shoot outs !!!!
 
I sure wouldn't want one pointed at me in a SD class either, and would at least talk to who ever runs the school/class about it.

Now having said that, I remember reading (in one of the rags) about a class (don't remember which rag, or which class) and it was mentioned that they do/did (I believe that the article mentioned this was no longer done, but don't remember for sure) point real guns at the students, as it gave them a similar feeling as to what they might experiance during an actual encounter (iirc this wasn't done just during force on force, but also prior in the class room) I still wouldn't like it, but depending on the type/level of training class, I could see where this could (maybe) be of some (small) benifit to gauging how a person will react in a life threatening situation.
