SDS Imports AR-T02?

Went to the Berea show today. Nobody had any T02s.

Went to four gun stores. Even the one that lists it online didn't have any in the store. I'll have to order it online and pick it up there. They don't know if it really takes Remington magazine extensions either. They said I could order both Remington and Beretta and return the one that doesn't fit.

Amazon says the case is coming today, a day early. It's coming USPS, so I wouldn't bet my life on it.

Crossing my fingers on the gun coming this week. I work nights, so I might not be able to pick it up until the day after. I won't get to shoot it until Sunday or Monday.

Picked the gun up today. Looks pretty good, especially for the money.

It even came with the extra gas system part for low power ammunition.

The tube extension isn't expected until next week. Tried to pick one up at other stores. Only one store had any, and those were for Benelli and Winchester.

I'll clean and lube it this weekend.

The optic is supposed to be here today.

While looking for an extension, I picked up a couple of 25 round boxes of Estate 00 buck with which break it in and test it.

Once I [hopefully] get the tube installed, I'll post pictures of it, and eventually of a target.

Just finished stripping, cleaning and lubing the gun. Instructions look like they were translated from Vietnamese to Turkish to English. The disassembly and assembly instructions are the same and don't even mention how to handle the bolt, bolt carrier or charging handle. I muddled through using YouTube videos for other similar guns.

I got the optic installed, although the boresighter won't get here until tomorrow, along with a sling.

All in all, it seems like a hell of deal. The quality seems quite good, better than the pictures of Rem Arms firearms I've seen so far. I'm not going to shoot it until I get the extension and install it.

The extension's in at the gun shop. I go to pick it up tomorrow.

Assuming that it fits, I'll take it home and take the gun to the range Sunday.

If it doesn't fit, I'll have the shop send it back and replace it with a Beretta extension.

Picked up the extension and the threads do match.

I'll be properly attaching it between today and Sunday and taking it to the local range on Sunday. I'll be trying Estate 0 and 00 in it.

Pictures to follow.

Threads match, but the threaded section on the magazine tube is slightly too long. I'm going to carefully remove a thread at a time until it snugs down against the locking ring and forend.

Shooting Report:

Pluses:
  1. Extremely pleasant to shoot, far more so than my Ithaca 37, with 00, 0 and #4.
  2. Very decent patterns at seven yards.

Minuses:
  1. Second to last and last rounds kept jumping out of the magazine tube. I preliminarily attribute this to the magazine spring which came with the extension. It seems too strong. I noticed something similar when trying to cycle snapcaps through it. I suppose it could also be due to short stroking during break-in. The next time I shoot it, I'll switch to the OEM spring and see what happens.
  2. The screw holding the rail on sheered off. There appears to be just enough of it left to possibly remove with needle nosed pliers.

Does anybody know what size screw is used to hold the rail in place? I'm betting it's some metric size, but won't know until I can get the broken one out.

Summary: I didn't expect Benelli or Beretta quality from a $255 gun, and am willing to do a little more wrenching on it to get what I want.

2nd Shooting Report:

Returned to the OEM cap and spring. Follower from the extension. Lubed it like an M-60.

Fifty rounds of Estate 00 without a single malfunction.

3rd Shooting Report:

Switched to the +2 extension and follower, OEM spring and moderate lubrication.

  • Magazine will only hold six rounds.
  • No rounds trapped on the follower, but a few failures to eject due to interference from round ejected from magazine.
  • Leepers rail rock solid.

When I take it back to the range next week I'll return to the OEM cap. Assuming there are no misfeeds, I'm going to ditch the extension and call it a day.

Barring unforeseen circumstances, today I'll be doing some cleaning, switching back to the OEM magazine tube cap and running another fifty rounds of Estate 00 through it. Assuming reliable performance, that's it for this gun. The only thing left will be to add the 2,000 lumen Olight.

While cleaning the gun just now I noticed something interesting.

As noted by a number of people, myself included, these types of guns have a reputation for having VERY stiff bolt releases.

At least on THIS model, the bolt release requires an inward and BACKWARDS pressure on the bolt release. The size and shape of the bolt release makes this difficult, if not actually painful. I expect if there were some kind of ridge machined or molded into the rear of the button (or a much larger surface), it might be easier to actuate, although even then I suspect it would take a LOT of lubrication and break-in to really be easy to operate.

Went to the range and fired twenty five rounds of Estate 00 with no malfunctions at all. Since I was already 99% sure the issue was the extension, I didn't bother to shoot the other twenty five rounds. Rail still solid as a rock.

As soon as I get the DSLR off of its macro rig and clear a space for photography, I'll post pictures.

I got my 2,000 lumen Olight a couple of days ago. I had to do some filing on the mount to get it on the Picatinny rail molded into the handguard.

At this point, I think it's ready to go. I might try the extension with the OEM spring, cap and follower, but I'm in no hurry. It's more than good enough right now.

At $255 before tax, I think I got my money's worth.

Also if anyone is looking for a ghost ring front sight like the one on the 1301 without paying out the wazoo for one , heres a comparable one. The rail may not fit , but the sight should . My rail came loose as well but loctite fixed it . https://www.trimports.com/product/ghost-ring/

Unfortunately I found this ghost ring to be very loose and unreliable. I'm going to try a different one from Brownells.

Mine broke off too. Did you find out what size it is?
