A family member married an honest-to-god former foreign spook 40 years ago. He had a belgian FN Highpower that he brought out to the farm to shoot once. I swear to the almighty it had no serial number. and he could really shoot that thing.

I think a Kahr Mk9 Elite would do quite nicely for a CIA operative that was the American equivalent to James Bond.

Half of these guys are right.. the P-35 is probably the most common handgun on the planet.
It works pretty good too.. go figure.

It would not be a Walther PPK.

Mine would be a SIG P228.

Or...depending on dress code...a Kimber Ultra in .45acp (with full sized 1911 magazine, Xgrip extender...for the extra round).

Avalon Hill games answered this question with the Q branch multi role pistol, more or less an HK 4 that could be had in .22, .32, .380 or 9mm Makarov.

I'd think a Makarov or a BHP would fit the bill just about any place.

This is what some OSS operatives were issued in WWII:

Suppressed High Standard HDM.
Quiet and presumably effective at close range.

I will eliminate the foe from the comfort of my living room (or toilet seat) with mere thought alone. ;)

What is your ONE pick for a sidearm if you were (theoretically of course) a deep cover operative?
I'd have to pick the ASP 9mm. I've always been facinated by this pistol since I first read about it back inthe 70's.

This was a custom pistol based on the Smith & Wesson Model 39 pistol, made by a small company in New York. The customization included a shortened slide; a fixed bushing (in lieu of the Smith and Wesson designed collet bushing); the unique Guttersnipe sight system; clear Lexan grip-panels; a fully ramped and throated, shortened barrel; and a smoothed and radiused profile to ensure no risk of snagging on the draw.

Unfortunatly, they were only produced in very limited numbers and are expensive collectors items now.

A Colt Detective Special with hammer shroud and T-Grips in a Seventrees holster. If I die, I die classy.

Speaking of Seventrees, a real life "Q", Paris Theodore, was quite an interesting character:

Shady life but he really was the designer of a lot of spooky gun gear some of which is no doubt still in use.
